Hi, we are new not only to this forum but new to boat building too. We are planning to start to build this fall, but have loads of questions. Is this gathering open to the general public (with a dream) or is it for people who have already built their boat? Is this just a fun get together of boat builders or is this a gathering that we could do some brain picking at. We are looking to get some serious ideas and maybe avoid some of the pitfalls newbies experience, when charging ahead when they don't have a clue what they are doing... just armed with a dream!! If it is open to anyone just getting started, could you send some sign up info... Thx G'ma

Speaking of Brain picking, at the G4 I met a dozen folks I'd like to have spent an hour with. The meeting is just too short for all I wanted to do.

What I should have done was get the EMail for every one of those Interesting people on a note pad for the future.

I may not make it to G5 as I have a Blood Clot in a leg which I think is gonna keep me at home.
Boy do I miss that bunch!

Welcome G'ma
You would be more than welcome at the Gathering. One of the main reasons they started the Gathering was so one could see what other people are building or have built , ask questions, and have a good time while you are there.
As far as signing up, just call Hales Bar (423 942 9000).
Their website is http://halesbarmarina.com
Tell them you are with the Gathering. I think they have some floating cabins and land cabins left. DaveLott is keeping up with what is left. I'm sure he'll see your post and give you more info.

Wow Guys! Thx for getting right back to me. I think this is just what we need. All the posts on this whole site say, you boat builders are a warm, friendly, wonderfully sharing group. We are so needing some guidence. I think the best decision we have made is to go with Glen-L plans, but with no real boating under our belts, I'm sure we could "sink" before we even start to "float" here if we aren't careful. Again thx, I am now headed to other topics here to ask some questions.... G'ma

You want to go to G5 for sure. Just seeing boats that others have built will give you the desire to build. I went to G3 and brought my boat to G5 even tho it wasnt ready for the water. You can get all kinds of ideas and thoughts as well as talk to the builders.

Maybe it will be done by G6 and maybe not.

Definetly come to the G5. I went to G4 without a boat and had just started on my Zip. It's Great to meet all the people you learn to know on the website. Lot's to learn about building at the Gs.

G'ma,
Welcome to the forum! Glad to hear you'll be at the Gathering. I promise it will be worth the time you spend there.
If you don't hear from HBM by email pretty soon, give them a phone call. If memory serves me right, they were slow answering my email, but a quick phone call took care of all the arrangements for my last visit there.

Thud,
I hate that you are out of commission and aren't planning or able to make G5. I was hoping to see you and enjoy your heartwarming tales, again. Take care of that leg. Thrombosis is nothing to mess around with, especially if it's a deep-vein type. Be careful and recover, my friend.

Hi Dave, My name is not on your list, but I have made a deposit to reserve two single floating cabins. I thought she told me 15 and 16, but I guess that is wrong. In any event, she has reserved two single floaters side by side in my name. Any problems, please let me know...Thanks,,,Neel

Dave, thanks for staying on top of this. You're doing a GREAT job and I'm sure everybody is grateful to you.

(That's a hint, "everybody")...

Gayle and I are really looking forward to seeing you, and everyone else, too, in September.

Hey, Neel. I put you in 14 and 15 on the list but you are probably right about the numbering. They recently renumbered the cabins and I have not had a chance to chase them down for correct numbering

I see there is a empty cabin on both sides of me. Guys, I promise I take a shower every day and do not snore.
