I used Pettit 1959 Copper Hard Racing Bronze Bottom Paint for below the water line on my barrelback19. For any of you who have used this paint before, can this be wet sanded and buffed to give it more of a shine? If so, can you please eloborate on the process? Thanks, Chris

Great question.... I have an antifouling "racing bronze" on the bottom of mine, and it is a pretty soft paint, so I have not tried to smooth it out... As a result, it is a little more "matte-finished" than I had hoped. I need to repaint the bottom before G5, so I'm anxious to share in whatever you learn here.

A matte finish is a good way to describe it Bruce. I didn't go with the antifouling so it a pretty hard finish. I have a few touch ups to make on the bottom of my hull due to scratches when we took it of the building form and on to the trailer when I flipped the hull. I'll try wet sanding and buffing to a shine on an area that I'm going to touch up anyways. I'll let you know how it works out.

I just bought another can of the bronze anti-fouling. I asked at the store, and they said that what I'm supposed to do with it is to let the paint harden, then "burnish" it with newspaper. (I guess that means "rub it really hard".) We'll see how that turns out.
