I was at a woodworking show in Atlanta a few years ago: I picked up this tiny box that this gentleman had made with incredibly awesome tiny box joints, but the finish was stunning: it looked like your boat: crackled and marbleized with veining that was absolutely amazing. I inquired as to how he got that finish. He said: I only wish I knew.

You see, he made a mistake with his finishes and coatings and he could not replicate it! It is a one of a kind wonder. He truly wishes he knows how he did it, and so do I.

Maybe you have hit on something with that finish. It might be a great deisgn for boat decks or something!

Well, I had that crackling when I applied my second coat on my bottom. I thought I was applying the second coat while the first coat was still in the green stage enough for a chemical bond. Unfortunately, it had already cured too hard. The second coat had nothing to grip so so it drew up very quickly and crackled.

The solution was to sand it off and redo but to make sure that I sanded between coats so that at least I had a mechanical bond.

Lesson learned- don't rely on the instructions for curing time.
