This was the best weekend we've had in the Atlanta area since May. Temps were in the 80s for a change and I think most of Friday was in the 70s due to all day rain. It's back to the low 90s this week.

It was my plan, but I spent all that beautiful time cutting stainless steel trim pieces for my hatch covers. It has to happen this week.

Awesome job. We'll all be leaving a large wake up I-75 here in a few weeks!

Definitly! I'm not sure when the rest of the GA crew is heading up. I plan (optimal word....plan) on heading up some time Thursday morning if I can (to make the run to Chattanooga). There is a slight chance at this point that i may not make it up untill friday. A convoy definitly may be in order.

Hello Gentlemen, I am just starting my Sea Knight build and am working from the orignial PM plans and instructions. I have lofted my frame pieces but one detail eludes me. I can see that the gussets are 3/8 plywood but no diamensions are givin for the length of the gussets as in how far up the verticle and out the horizontal should the gusset extend. Looking at the diagram in the Popular Mech. you have to just guess. If anyone could provide some feedback I would appreciate it. I have Glen Witts books and maybe the info is there somewhere so I'll keep looking otherwise it will be the TLAR principle. Thanks

Craig

Actually I found the info in Glen Witts book, 6" either side of the joint. The building with plywood book I bought years ago is a wonderfull resouce to have.

I went ahead and purchased the full plans for the Sea Knight figuring more information is a good thing and I will not have to guess on the size of gussets etc. I had made a number of loftings for the frames so I will be able to check them against the patterns that come with the plans as well. I have a question about Horse Power for the boat. I assume it is best to buy the biggest engine one can afford and I see many using 115 hp engines. I am currious as to how much would be the least one should consider. I now the original prototype used a 35hp engine. My wife and I plan to use the boat for casual cruising in the puget sound say 8-10 knots average speed but speed would be good to have to get out of the way of crusie ships and container ships in the shipping lanes as well. I would enjoy any feedback from the group. Thanks again

Craig

Darth, the Sea Knight has a cabin, are you building as a runabout,or with cabin?

I couldn't remember!
