Hello folks

Im about to start fiberglassing both my riviera and tahoe... Im planning to just fiber the bottom. My question is... do i fiber over the flat space i cut out for the strut and rudder stuffing box plate then when all done and dry i cut that fiber part out... or should the fiber stay there and install the parts over the fiber??

Was this clear?

The plan is two halves of 8oz fiberglass over lapping each other at the center line of the keel.... wet out first coat with epoxy then when dry to the touch apply the second coat and again when dry to the touch apply the third. Does this sound right?

Then I'm gonna do 3 coats to bright finish the sides.

Any advice on anything u think i should do different or add to this would be greatly appreciated

Thanx in advance!!

Zane

Make the flats slightly big. Your bottom lap will probably be about 2 or 3 inches. At the flats extend the glass all the way across the flat.

Be generous with the sealant around the bolts. You won't find out they leak until it's a real PITA to fix.

Ah so im not supposed to cut away the fiberglass from that area after it dries and just seal the area with epoxy?

Why should i over size them and by how much? :?:

Why would you want to cut the glass off? It seals. It reinforces. It's not doing anything negitive.

If you overlap the whole area you won't have a ridge to sand down.

I was thinking the fiberglass will not sit nicely in that rectangle cutout since theres the edges and will form bubbles. So should i press the strut in place pushing the fabric in?
Whats the method?

Sorry for the total noob questions

I used 4 oz cloth on the bottom. If I were doing it again I would use 6 oz. The 4 oz went around all the edges with no problem and I suspect the 6 oz would also. I even wrapped the bow with the 4 oz. I made a pencil size radious on the stem prior to glassing. I flattened the space for the strut at an angle so I would have the correct strut angle as well.

Maybe it will be done by G6 and maybe not.
