I got my remaining fasteners needed from Glen-L last night. Who would have thought this thing is going to have $220 in screws in it. I ordered them from Gayle, and had them 3 days letter. Great Service from the folks at Glen-L!

Robert,

Did you screw the base of the from into the cement floor? If so, did you level that before screwing in and what type of screws did you use and how many?

TIA,

John

John,

Yes I did secure it to the floor using Tapcon screws as John B. mentions. In the "Fasteners" section there is a 3 page topic on the subject where I believe we have discussed it at nauseum. Enjoy the read over there.

John,

I did just get back from vacation (29 hour travel time), and have not had the opportunity to do any work to the boat or photo site for almost a month. After I get over the jet lag, I plan to start working again in a week or so.

Bill,
I'll get up some newer pics soon.

Hi there, I am totally new to boat building. I very much enjoyed your thread and intend to visit on a regular basis.

I just wanted to wish you luck with this build. I am still trying to settle on what to build but I am thoroughly enjoying the experience!

Guys,

Sorry no updates recently. I went on an audit to Reno for work last week, and honestly have not worked on the Minuet since getting back from the cruise. I am having trouble figuring out how to work in the 100F+ degree tempertures. It is 95F when I get home in the evenings frequently. Not only is the epoxy kicking too fast (I have read other posts on slowing the cure by flatter containers), but I cannot stand being out there in the safe clothing (yet alone a Tyvek suit) when it is that hot. All I have done recently is buy more lumber (mahogany for keel, chines, sheer, and centerboard trunk) and order the remaining fasteners. I will update the site when I have more to show.

Thanks for the interest. It helps keep me going.

Robert

Robert,

I found the samething. I can control the resin. But, I can't take the heat.

It's a problem when sweat runs out of your gloves and on to your work!

Sometimes, by the time it cools down enough to work, I've spent too much time with the C&C.

We here in the south, hear ya. Bad enofe to have to work in it all day, let alone come home and have to play in it. I get home and it's to the Chair and Cooler, that's about as far as I get.

So, don't be sorry, it's understood. Better to wait than to have to labor at it. A build should be fun, enjoyable, when not, step back.

All,

I started working on the Minuet again last night, and have a question. I copied the plans on to the plywood for the centerboard trunk sides. It says on the plans to leave the sides of the centerboard trunk long where it will exit from the keel. The Keel is 1.25" Mahogany. There will be a slot cut in the keel for the centerboard to exit. Should I leave it long by 1.25" to clear the keel, or should I make it more like 2.25" and plan to trim is later? I understand the bed logs will mate to the top of the keel, so I see how that works, but the trunk sides confuses me. Thanks for any help.

Also, just an FYI...I took a new job as an Internal Auditor for my employer (a large Home Builder). So, I will be traveling 15-20 weeks a year. I am sure this will not affect my Boat Building at all....

Robert,

Per detail "M" they don't extend below the plane of the bevel of the keel. However, because of that bevel, they will need to be slightly longer than the keel is thick even when beveled.

Thus, I would leave them to extend slighly below the keel (an inch or so should be plenty), and trim them to the plane of the bevel before bottom planking is applied.

Did I understand your question? Does that help?

-Greg
