Jimmy my best friend among two other acquaintainces used one for six years until he finally got a transplant, thats right. He had a liver transplant probably 15 years ago after a combination of drugs destroyed his with side affects. The only thing that got him was pancreatic cancer, believe it or not in his senior years. So if you gotta deal with the needs, I strongly recommend it, from my own observation. The in office leaves a person useless. So I say jump through the hoops and let us know any and all progress. Things in the medical field continue to evolve too, and hopefully R&D is not destroyed with all the so called know better folks far away with no experience in the profession. Those pick lines are always done earlier than needed too for many reasons to include they are telling you that you are still in good working order. Thats right.

Thanks one and all for the encourging words with the use of the dialysis machines. I think I just had a mind set against being tied to a wall all of the time and I am sure if they did not have home units I would just check out of this old world. Since they do and from reading and listening to a couple people about the units it may work out okay.

Here are some shots of my tear drop mandolin. I don't think I ever posted these as they were not on the photobucket listing. I started building this while I lived in Calif. but had to move so stored it for many moons. I dug it out last year and finished it up and it really sounds good.

Man, Jimmy, yer a regular machine! Keep em comin! Good luck with the health issues, make sure you ask lots of questions and are comfortable before committing to anything.

With regards to bending the maple, I have found that, no matter what kind of bender you use, lightbulb, torch, or what, I use a duct-metal sheet on top and below the wood....supports it through the bend and prevents cracking.

If you are using a pipe with a torch...consider replacing the torch with an electric barbecue starter....the ones with the metal heat elements can be bent to fit in the pipe. Less of a chance of scorching or hot spots from the flame. I use mine with a router speed control from Harbor Frieght....seems to control the heat, but you can't go too low. just a thought.

I just escaped from the Hospital.
I was there for a month and I'll tell you that Jimmy would have been the best Room Mate in the world for that time.
I hope you get used to the D treatment. My buddy did. It extends your life line way out there too.
You could get a big Falcon or Owl to sit on a leather cuff over that big bulge in your arm

How ya been Jimmy! Hope things are working out for you. I finally finished the Curly Mango after 2.5 years, 9 cracks, 2 refinishes, and all the other garbage life sends your way. This was a prototype for the Padauk I showed pictures of earlier...never got finished till now!

File comment: I chose to do some very unusualy things here....there are actually 5 laminated braces instead of the four shown, but they are spruce with a veneer of wenge on either side...because, well, it looked cool.

File comment: I am not one to keep building according to convention. I designed my own brace layout, and took a note from some builders I strongly admire..laminated braces for more strength yet greater flexibility, but with my own interpretations. Its even more fun when it turns out.

The sound is better than I expected. Crystal clear highs, midrange could use a little work, but deep, rich bass for a small bodied OM...."breathy" is the best way to describe it. I love it, so different from my rosewood jumbo.

Anyway, hope all is well with you. Kepp pickin'!

Folks please keep Jimmy in your thoughts and for the praying types in your prayers. His condition is up in the air and is confined to the hospital, but hopefully will come home over the weekend. He is such a talented individual not withstanding a genuinely kindhearted and giving fellow, that has also suffered from the effects of the recent hurricane too.

Hi Guys

Sorry I haven't kept up to good with the forum but do think of all of you. Thanks again for the good wishes and good luck in the future spots.
I had a fistula installed in the left arm, they cut open the arm,(about 1") and wacked off one of the arterys going to the hand and pull it up and connect it to a return vein so it will be ready for the needles for the dialysis machine. That is healed up good but did leave a numb feeling on the first two fingers and the thumb but it seems that is slowly repairing its self too.

I have opted for home dialysis so they will order up me a machine, a chair and all of the equipment needed to do this at home. I have a nurse and plumber coming over tuesday to see the best spot to intall the water supply and return lines. It looks like I will park my old butt in the dining room as that is about the closest spot for it to work good. It won't be long and we (my wife) and I will get trained on the hookup proceedure and clean up of the machine once it is used for the day. Part i don't like but better than the clinics is using the machine everyday but for 2 hours at a time to clean up the blood. In fact there was a article in the paper saying the 3 day dialysis is not enough when going to the clinics 3 times a week. If this is true then hopefully they will have a change of heart and do it more often for the 400,000 people that need it done.

I really wanted to make this last run to Nickajack but I got to feeling real bad and ended up in the hospital for almost a week from a bad case of diarrhea and got dehydrated bad. They got me turned around okay but I felt really drained out.

Then to top it off a huge oak tree uprooted and fell on my biggest storage shed, 16x24, and cut it right in half when hurricane irene came thru.. I got a good man to take it out and now all is left is the stump and a wrecked building. I had a lot of guitar woods, necks, bodies, bass necks and fingerboards and a ton of banjo making stuff along with necks there. Course the rain got some of the wood good and wet but I was suprised it all wasn't ruined either. In the mean time I had a crew come out and enclose my boat shed, 16x16', and stuffed most of the stuff in there to save it. I had several of those small parts bins full of what nots and screws and left over guitar and banjo parts that got smashed up. Now got to make up a report for the damaged goods and send that off to the insurance company. I took some photos in case they want some evidence of the smashed up bins and also turned upside down and 90% of it laying in the rain. What a hassel...

So I see you all had a good time and I surely wish I could have been there to enjoy it with you.
The fellow who showed up last year with me was Tom but he is in Germany touring on his bicycle, lucky dog he is but he sends me photos now and then too.

I have to give my Big Thanks to Oyster for helping me out and phoning me to see how I am doing. Oyster you are one good man, Thanks for being so kind.
Jimmy
