Well i finally flipped my tahoe today... wow what a feeling it is to be able to see her right side up :D

But right after that big smile faded i got overwhelmed with all the work that needs to be done on this side now. Where to start? What should the first step be??

I started with planing the extra wood sticking past the sheer line.. then ummm... errrrrrmmmm :s

I looked here in the archive to see some build pics.. but i feel like id like to see more photos bigger and better details... Any links to deck build pics would be greatly appreciated.

That shop is way too clean. Looks good. Figure out where to put the engine and drive gear. Every thing else will go around those items. Wait on the deck until you have wiring, engine, blowers, pumps, etc installed. Its killing me and making the chiropractor rich having to crawl under the deck.

Congratulations on the flip. (Did you take pictures? We are always interested to see how people handle that)

Like John said...

You probably want to "think from the top down", but "assemble from the bottom up"

Start by designing the position of your major things... Engine, hatch, seats, dash, controls, exhaust, fuel fill, flotation.

Will you run with the frames and battens showing inside the boat? Or will you have soles (floor boards) and ceilings (side panels)?

Then you can fill in all the details, ensuring you have access to EVERYTHING.

Once the motor is dropped in, you can start to think in "systems"... Power, Exhaust, Fuel, Cooling, Steering, Charging, Lighting, Draining

If you have not glued your top frame members (i.e. they are just bolted) you can temporarily remove some of them to make moving around the boat easier while you are working on the lower systems.

But I do suggest that you "rough in" the hatch opening before dropping in the motor. (don't ask me why I know that)

If you haven't got the book "Inboard Motor Installation" yet, it is a good time to get it.

Congratulations!!! Now the boat really becomes your own. I agree about think from the top down and build from the bottom up. Knowing everything that's going into the boat and planning it's placement is key. I like to have as many things in advance so I know what size and shape and how they connect. Rough sketches and diagrams really help. And, of course, it helps to shamelessly copy and steal others ideas!!

Congratulations on a pivotal point in the construction. As others have stated, now is the time where you creative energy comes to pay. And the fun. I flipped my boat around 280 hours and then it took another 700 to finish it. There simply is so much going on.

I would start with opening up the cockpits and reframing them to the dimensions you want. You can work in front and aft deck framing while you work on your engine placement. BUTTTT get everything mechanical in, wired, plumbed and tested before you close up anything. It is far easier to work with an open deck rather than laying, squeezing, twisting and cussing to get the little stuff in that you forgot about.

Looks Great!

Next trim back the shear, cut out cockpits and engine compartment. Put 5 gal bucket in your boat. Sit on bucket and make engine noise! A deep throatty sound is best! :)

Hahaha Bill.... i already did that.... and damn was it LOUD :p

Ok i cut out the frame 2, 6 and 7 roughly just to move more freely. I still don't have the motor or anything mechanical except for the rudder :s

So I'm thinking I'm gonna start with the front and work my way around.... If I'm forced to finish up or keep working without a motor then be it... ill have to put up with twisting and squeezing. I should have placed the order for the motors way in advance... oh well.

Does anyone have detailed photos of the sheer line laminates and especially how they meet the top of transom in the end? In the photo i attached i planed the sheer line roughly... should the transom top stay that height so its level when i add the sheer clamps? Or should it be planed down also to match the rest now? Id really like to see that!

So r u guys saying this work should take double the time of the whole first half before the flip??? :O

Bruce ya i have like a twelve million pics so far

Second pic is just a teaser :p

Thanx all... Ill be coming back here with more questions... please bare with me :)

WOW -

Is it possible to get above and take a picture down on the 2. That would be a great comparative shot.

Wow, congratulations on both boats. So are you going to bolt them together and ride them like a catamaran? Seriously, they look great. Since you are over in UAE, I have to ask about the materials. Are the materials super expensive or difficult to get? Are things like African Mahogany less expensive since you are closer? BTW, when I was buying my trailer at a boat surplus yard in Georgia, they were going to ship a Sea Ray over to UAE. Was that you?
