Sounded like mine. I will check the flex plate but it was a pain to get it to engage so I think its in there properly but then again maybe not. After all the starter didnt engage at first either. That was a wrong flywheel.

John,
I will also be flying into KAPT on Friday I hope it's VFR. We may get a little group for a high pass over the marina.

OK that sounds fine. I'll arrange to be there at 1. Is that eastern time or central?

I assume you have an oil cooler and associated pipework in there. Dumb question I know, but just checking. If the plugs were still in place and no cooler, symptoms would be the same as it needs the flow out through the cooler and back to the transmission. I'd also do a quick check that the pipes and cooler have free flow in case there is a blockage in there somewhere. Prime shouldn't be an issue as long as they put it together with oil in it I am guessing. Hopefully flex plate is on backwards and is an easy fix.

Yes I will be checking flow. I think ( notice the think) that the flex plate is correct due to the juggling to get the splines to line up. But will check anyway. Thanks for the tips. I can always count on the people on the forum.

And checking engine rotation agrees with tranny pump rotation.

Do I have to pull the trans to check that? I think I do.

Yes. There is a arrow at top of pump cover that points to direction of rotation. It can be either rotation as long as it is setup accordingly.
Is your engine a left or right rotation?

Here is a link to a book manual.

Scroll down to 'pump indexing'.......that was page 10 on my computer
Hopefully this is all you need to be running at G5

I believe my engine is left hand rotation. I purchased the starter for left hand and it works correctly. my understanding is that the normal rotation is left hand for the engine. Also I have been told that all the mercruiser I/O setups are for left hand rotation. ALso I have been told that the engine that has the two gears without a chain are for right hand rotation and my engine has a chain for the timing.. That being said it doesnt mean any of this is right so I will check again. The worst thing is that I do not have the time to fix any of this in time to get the boat to G5 which is a big disappointment to me. I plan on coming and riding in every one elses beautys this year and mine will be there next year. Thanks to everyone for their ideas. I'm hoping its simple like changing the pump rotation on the trans. Its a 72C 1:1.

OK, sounds like you got a L/H engine.
Perhaps your tranny was indexed as a R/H tranny.
You just have to check and see. It is easy to swap rotation of the tranny, just 4 bolts.
