I've been exploring gauge options and would be interested in mounting on the deck, behind the windshield if I could find the right housing.

The ones sold by Glen-L and others look like a pipe coming up through the deck. I'd be more interested in a chrome 'bullet' style similar to the housings used on motorcycle headlights and turn signals.

I can't find anything on the internet like that. Any suggestions?

Its really easy to actually create your own electrical or electronics panel out of sheet metal and have it chromed too. The problem with finding something stock is that rarely does such item exists because of the wide range of space for these boats, depending on the model. Creating custom stuff is not that hard once you get your mind around accepting the time and patience to lay things out and this will yield you what you want. Practice making templetes while keeping in mind that down the road you may also modify your engines and even extra equipment too.

This is more of an issue with outboards than with inboard engines since the electronics are more interchangable, especially in the area of looks. Gauges are pretty much standard and adaptable to senders on inboards where custom wiring will probably be required too if you go with building up your own inboard engine.
With new outboards, specific matchup with harness plugs are the standard with the exception of fuel gauges, in most cases, with their matching gauges for the engine. While there are some cross overs for some, each year seams to bring out completely different ones because the electronics change so fast.

Andy, take a cue from Bunman's build and make up some really creative housings from wood built up and sanded to shape. Cut circles of descending diameters and glue them up and shape them into freeform bullets to fit around the gages. A piece of stainless tube could be a pedestal mount.

You could also turn the bullet shape mount on a lathe then cut a flat spot as needed for mounting.

Don't know if they're still around , but there used to be some guage mounts for mounting instruments on the outside cowl of "hot rods" in front of the windshield. ie tach, oil pressure etc., or even on the hood.

Perhaps I can find gauges that will fit into a modified turn signal (or other motorcycle device) housing. I think two or three would be fine--I don't want many gauges.

Speed, tach and fuel should be enough. That would make a nice cluster right up on the deck.
