So on my lunchbreak today, I head over to Rockler woodworking supply to pick up a few supplies for the shop.
The guy ringing me up at the checkout asks "what are you working on?". I think to myself, oh boy, here comes another of those "...a what?!?!?" responses. When I tell him, he asks me what kind of boat, and then proceeds to tell me that he has built a canoe, a kayak, and a 12' sailboat! I then come to find out that he lives right around the corner from me, and he invites me to come by to see his creations!

The surprises don't end there...

I get home from work, and my stepson tells me that he finally sold his dog crate. While the lady was picking it up, he started making small talk and mentioned the boat. She was surprised, and he showed her my shop. She said her husband was doing the exact same thing! Apparently he's here on the forum all the time, said his name is Bill something.
Holy cow! small world.

So who here just bought an old dog crate??

Yeah, I bet it is Bill E. I have been to his place in Atlanta and have seen his project. He is also a great guy with a great family. Same can be said for Dave who is just north of you in Cartersville! I was fortunate to be part of his flip! You have tons of support right in your neighborhood, have fun! I used to live on Lake Somerset in Marietta (just of 120/Dallas Hwy) Lots of water around, have a great time!

I want to build the Coastal Cruiser but I might have to settle for a flats flyer until then! Right now hunting is kind of "getting in my way" !

Bill E., is that you? Why so quiet??
Oh I know... you don't want some punk newbie builder coming by your shop and asking all sorts of annoying questions.

You are right, it is a small world. I'm the Dave that Steve (Leakcheck) was talking about in Cartersville. Bill E and Steve helped me flip my boat 5 years ago. WOW, I can't believe it's been that long ago. Both are great guys and I got a chance to give Bill E a ride in my boat at this years Gathering.

What boat are you building?

Bill !!!! I was on a snowmobile trip in the mountains of Wyoming and I lost my cellphone. The ONLY reason I was upset...is that I had saved on that cell phone a message from you when you called me one night and it went to my voicemail, it started out: "Hey AH"...I laughed about that for months...so bad I had to save it! I don't know why when you call me that it just feels so right, but shootdang is that funny!

So I was reading this thread a few days back thinking you guys are so lucky to have other Glen-L builders near you.

Fast forward to tonight and I am riding my bike in the neighborhood directly across the county road from mine and I stumbled upon this boat that looks very much like a Glen-L design. I ride up and check it out, it sure looks like a shorter, narrower Malahini. (Sorry, the picture wouldnt load from my phone so links will have to suffice)
https://picasaweb.google.com/vupilot/Wo ... 6261027154

https://picasaweb.google.com/vupilot/Wo ... 1941009234

Then I see a guy at the glass door of the house perhaps making sure Im not stealing anything out of his boat, and I wave him out. I ask if its his and it is, I then ask if its a Glen-L. He said its a Glen-L Fisherman and he has had it finished for 3 seasons. He chose this design because it suits his fishing needs and fits in his garage. Too cool. I showed him a picture of my boat at the Gathering that was on my phone then told him where my house is and invited him to visit. He had seen talk about the Gathering and asked how many boats came. His dinner was getting cold inside but it was neat to have a short chat with another Glen-L boatbuilder very near by. I'm not sure if he is a member of the forum but if not perhaps he will see this and introduce himself.

Small world indeed.
