Found a mid 60's C.C. 27 ft with twin 327's that is being parted out. I am guessing that it has 1.5:1 or 2:1 transmissions in it. If a guy were to get a complete setup motor to prop would this work in a 22 ft runabout or would your speed be limited. I am also looking at getting the rudder, stuffing box, strut, shaft log and water pickup as well as some deck hardware.

It would be fine as long as the shaft length and stut angle are the same as needed for you build.

if not, you would have to get a different shaft, log, and strut, or shim the log and strut and buy a different shaft

With a reduction box on there it may be swinging quite a large prop. I'd check the diameter and make sure you can fit it under a runabout. Gentry has a 12" prop specified, 1:1 350. I suspect I could almost fit a 13", but only just without much more shaft angle. She is 18 ft. though, 22 would give you more room to play I guess. If youhave a runabout in mind, ask for someone who has teh plan or ask Gayle to check on specific ones maybe.

You really need to identify the gear ratio that was in the donor boat. Guessing will get you nowhere.
What kind of 22ft runabout are you looking at? What gear does that one need? What gear have you got?

I am building the monsoon. I have not bought anything yet as far as running gear. In a perfect world I would want all new stuff but in reality I may have to look at used and rebuild/overhaul the used items. Still a long time before the hull will be ready to have the shaft hole drilled so not under the gun as of right now. I just came across this when I was setting up delivery of the 18 ft Higgins I found and thought hmmmm......

You can get used but will find you'll probably need to buy new/used parts in addition (gear box, shaft, strut, prop) to make it work for your application.

The better used deals I have found usually include the boat, motor, and trailer. That's why people make money parting boats out. It means you'll end up with more stuff than you want but will save on the front side.

The notes section of the Monsoon do not call out specific power/gear/prop needs so hopefully that's covered in the plans. It does state, however, speed performance based on SHP. Going by 24hr performance I'd think desiel is the way to go.

Kens is a pretty knowledgable with all this stuff for this size boat so hopefully he'll chime back in here.

But, in one of the photos (below) I see what looks like the top of a I/O leg...this could be a possibility as well and probably easier to find in a salvage operation.

Looks like a neat possibility...just thinking out loud here. :D

You might be able to make that work. A 327 in a monsoon would work fine, probably a 1.5:1 gear.
If you get a pair of 327 from the donor boat, all you need is one, so you can sell, trade, barter to get the balance of correct parts you need for Monsoon.
I would go ahead and do it.

I just talked to the guy and he has bumped his head wants 3000 each for the engines. told him I was thinking like maybe $500 for everything since It was going to need a rebuild. We are not on the same page at all. I mean I have no way of knowing the condition of any of this stuff and most likely it is not what I need anyhow.

$3000 each??!! That guy was smokin' crack............thats how he bumped his head. Engines of that age get approx $500 if they run. $1000 for all the parts you could strip out of it would be generous.
