Another Belle Isle Update - Dick Williams - Oct 2011

Postby DickWilliams » Tue Oct 04, 2011 6:10 am

As I am nearing the completion of my build, I thought I might send in another brief update. As of the last post in July I have finished up the wiring, started up the engine (wonderful) have the seats and crashpads in and just installed the windshield (need to replace one panel since it cracked on me). Overall I am happy with "Miss Beehive" and now trying to figure out how to get her out of this tent in my yard and on to a trailer ??? :? It feels really strange to have gotten to this point and when I step back and look at the overall boat, I am sort of bewildered as to how it ever took shape .... :)

Oh my gosh. That is gorgeous.

Will you splash before the ice?

As for getting her on the trailer... (and I am just brainstorming here)

Will the trailer fit inside the shelter door?

If Yes.... you can "jack, block, and shuffle" (i.e.: use several hydraulic jacks to lift the boat onto blocks at the stern, and several large axle stands along the keel... remove your building form. Then gradually back your trailer under the boat, jacking the boat up and changing axle stands when the trailer's cross members come to an axle stand)

(don't forget to remove that fancy flagpole (grin))

If No.... you can either think of a way to get your building form on casters or rollers to pull the boat out of the shelter OR...take the shelter down, (or possibly pick it up and move it?) and proceed with the "yes" option.
Bruce.

Thanks everyone for all the kind words.... I really appreciate all the help and encouragement!
Special thanks to Bruce Dow and UPSPirate for the help and ideas on getting this boat out of the tent and onto a trailer. I think it is going to be like building a pyramid! One of the mistakes I made after the flip, was orienting the stern towards the driveway. If I had flipped it around at that point and stuck the bow toward the street, it would have been a lot easier to back in a trailer and push it on. As it is, I believe I have just a couple of choices.... A) put some wheels on my cradle and back it out to the street.... where it can be loaded on a trailer B) Take the tent down and build my own little crane system and raise the boat high enough so that I can slide a trailer all the way under it, and then back the trailer and boat out to the street. C) get a really huge boom truck ($$$) to come in and lift it up for me and put it on a trailer

In any event I appreciate the thoughts and enjoyed those videos! I will send some pics of the move.... likely next spring

Thanks again... Dick W

...you can take the winch post off the trailer and slide it under the boat just as well.

Ugh.

I had missed the fact that it was "stern out"....

"Jack, block, and shuffle" could still work, but would take a lot more time and care.
