Ok hi all I am a newbie here,

I have been thinking of building a boat myself based on the riva Aquarama, the closest I can find is the Tahoe but as you have all discussed the deck height is too low to allow a sunken lounge on top which is something I would reallly like.So at the risk of sounding silly I shall ask my question in the hope someone can give me understanding as to why not?

Cant I take the Tahoe 23 plans and extend the vertical frames say 300 mm from the aft to say 100 mm at the Bow to give a high transom and increase the deck height ? The way I see it is if I am not changing anything below the water-line surely I wont alter the boats handling consideribly? I know it will be slighty more top heavy but surely this wouldnt make that much of a difference? or will it?

Next why cant I add a couple of extra rafters and add twin v8's ? I know the riva is a big boat at 26'-28' but surely a 23' boat will handle say twin 5 litre V8's? With the extra weight wouldnt it just sit a little deeper in the water ?wouldnt this offset having the higher deck as well more weight down low?

Pardon my ignorance I am sure their are good reasons as to why not I just cant see them.

Your help is most appreciated

Tom

Hi Tom.

One of the best parts of boatbuilding is the dreaming.

I love the Riva Aquarama, and have always dreamed of dressing up a Tahoe for that look.

I'm sure you could figure a way to extend the frames to raise the deck a bit. I just wouldn't go too crazy on that.

The engines are a bit of a different story.

I hate to be a "buzzkill", but here are some things that you would need to think about...

1) is the hull even wide enough? My first reaction was that twin v8s would not fit side by side in the Tahoe.

2) the whole framing scheme would need to change. The current design is for one engine that sits between the two motor stringers. For twins, you would need a whole different stringer scheme. The stringers are the "backbone" of the boat, and are the foundation for all of the frame locations. This change would not be trivial.

Those are my first concerns....

You be looking to add over 2ft to the beam to get 2 motors in a Tahoe.

Love the idea but the modifications to the Tahoe are too extensive.

The monte Carlo is 9 inches wider and I dont think that two 350's could be installed side by side without a lot of changes to the structure. And after riding in Butch's Tahoe I dont think you would need two motors. that boat was awesome.

Maybe it will be done by G6 and maybe not.

Thank you all for your feed back....That really sounds like great news as I can live without the twin v8s as long as it has at least 1 Vn8 :D.Its more about the look and style rather than the twin v8's just thought I would put the question out there.

Regards
Tom

I was with you on that ride and agree.

I fired up a GPS Speedometer app on my phone. When Butch realized it, he just smiled and floored it. That big block started to sing and we were are 46mph in no time with seven aboard.

One good motor will be plenty.
