Hey Dave - can you share the source/model of your ski tow pylon? Or, if you customized, what worked best for you? I have been hunting for a pylon like yours - found a couple close but nothing as nice as yours!

They are standard items on the Chaparral boats in 2009 and 2010. I recommend finding a dealer and have them order one for you

I love them compared to others that I saw

I as well like the pylon you have on your boat... Ill look for one for my boats.

Well another update photos for you guys to see...

Still no motors and we'r lagging now :/

Im really itching to just finish them completely then when motors come ill deal with it... but the thought of having to cut and redo stuff cuz of fitment issues kinda worries me... as you can see i already closed up the riviera but still waiting on the tahoe as I'm playing with the idea of a utility.

Iv stretched my tahoe to 24'6".. I'm not sure where exactly the engine needs to sit since its not the same as the drawings in the plan... The hole is at frame #2... how close to frame #4 do u think the motor should be? How much max space should a V8 need?

Maybe if Butch Barto can chime in on this that would be great!

Cheers
Zane...

The engine moves forward some related to the stretch. But, slightly back realeted to the frames it was originally drawn.

At your speed, you probably have the Engine in already but, in case....We built a stretched Tahoe this past winter (I call it the Butch Barto Edition Tahoe). The Engine set up that we have is a Pleasurecraft 351 with Velvet drive. The outline of the engine is almost the exact size of the one in the drawing and the coupling<>engine mount dimensions are spot on. Despite the stretch, we pretty much landed the engine exactly where it is in the drawing (relative to the frames) and, because of the shape of the VD and the oil pan on the 351, we didn't have to remove any material from the frames.

We'd located the rudder/strut relative to the frames from plan as well and a small regret was that we had to remove some of the material from the rear frame to accommodate the bolts for the strut.

Great thanx for the input!!

Corey thanx for posting the pics! Actually no motors yet :s

Im looking into the Mercruiser 8.1 Horizon (370HP) for my tahoe... Anyone has any experience with this motor or know anything about it?

Again would i have to mate a 8 degree down angle tranny with the motor for the tahoe? Seems like i can't find a 1:1 8 deg down angle... it would have to be 1.25:1

What r u guys running?

More update photos.... So close I can smell the Sea when I'm standing next to the boats :D

Cheers

Sorry, no experience with that motor. I didn't realize that you could get transmissions with different angles. My Velvet drive is 0deg and its the engine mounts that give it the down angle.

The Velvet Drive Liberty Series 8° down angle with its 1.054:1 ratio is as close as you're going to get to a 1:1 down-angle transmission.

The following manufacturers offer inline 1:1 ratio transmissions :

    • Velvet Drive 71 and 72 Series
    ZF 45C, ZF 63C
    PCM 40 I

Specs, suppliers and pricing for the transmissions listed above can be found on our website's Transmission Page.

Hope this helps !

Thank you guys!

So the only purpose of the down angle is to keep the motor down low... am i correct?

Im assuming that would be needed for the Riviera but not needed for the tahoe since theres more space in there.

Dave, what tranny are you running?

Regards
Zane

I am running the 1.25:1 reduction with a 9 degree downangle. This gives me engine only a 5 degree lift off the motor stringers. That is very close to being level.

Now the next question you are going to ask why not 7 if I am using a 16 degree strut.

Note that the keel on the Riviera rises 2 degrees relative to the motor stringer from Bow to Transom. So the spacing between your keel and motor stringer is closer at the transom than the bow.

The bore thru the keel is still at 16 degrees but the relative effect on your engine level with this transmission is only 5 degrees on the motor stringers. Does that make sense?

Hi Dave .. Ya makes sense. Im running a different strut than the one you have.... if u remember it was whatever was available at the time... it had less than 7.5" drop. would that change anything?

My only concern is room over the motor as i already closed her up and made the hatch doors etc... i don't want to get the motor only to find out that it sticks out of the hatch :s

More updated pics...

Cheers
