Nice work getting it fitted and shaped.

The rods and reels above are ready for the future fishing trip with the big catch.

any updates?

How much fiberglass cloth have you used so far?

Is there a benefit to your skeg build being narrower in the center than the ends?

Will this affect performance?

Hey Frog,

I haven't seen Blake around for a while. I'd like to see where he is in his build too, but maybe something else has come up.

I recently finished fibreglassing the bottom of my Tug Along 16 and used every thread of the fibreglass that Glen-L sent me (11 yards 50" Fiberglass Cloth & 13 yards 38" Fiberglass Cloth). I still didn't have enough for the bulwark though, so I've had to buy some more.

Re the skeg, the shape is per the plans which calls for a straight bottom. The narrower center is the result of gluing the lumber onto a curved hull, while keeping the bottom of the skeg straight. I recently finished doing that, although I chose to use a single piece of lumber. The drawback is that you have to shape the lumber to the curvature of the hull. There's no performance enhancement to the shape as such, but on a flat hull bottom you really need a skeg so that she doesn't go slipping all over the place on the water and tracks straight and true.

Are you building a Tug Along or thinking about it?

Richard

been very busy with my first semester of college and mowing lawns this year so haven't worked on the boat too much but am hoping to get back into it as the grass is slowing down a lot.

hmmmm not sure how much glass i have used. i would guess 20-25 yards of 50" 8 oz on the bottom, sides, and stern arc and one layer of biaxial around the stern arc so maybe 3 yards of that. Also, i am fiberglassing the interior while it is upside down so i'd say i'll use another 10 yards for the inside.

Also the cabinets you see in the background are from the shop of Sonny Hines who built sport fishing boats a few years back

Great to see the update, Blake. Nice work.

BTW, the pics brought up an issue that I'm going to have soon. How the heck do you build a boat with an overall height of 7'7" in a garage that has a door height clearance of 7'5"?

Any thoughts?

Richard

have you been sneaking around my garage taking measurements?? when i get to the point of building the cabin, i'm moving the boat to a spot in a friends large warehouse with a door twice as tall as the boat :D

You're funny, but smart solution. I just happen to have the same problem, so I was wondering. I'm only stalking your build online, no other weird stuff.

I guess it's just the perspective in those pics, but that thing looks like it's got a 10 foot beam!
Nice work though. :)
