Hi All,

I purchased the System 3 Malahini Fiberglass kit from glen-l. The reason I'm writing is that the cloth supplied seems to be too small to fully wrap the sides. The cloth is supplied in 50 inch width, and the instructions say to cut this down the middle and that this will wrap from the bow around to the middle of the transom. Problem is that the sides at the widest point are almost 25 inches from the sheer to the chine, which would mean that I wouldn't really have any wrapping over the chine at that point. This seems wrong to me. Anyone run into this situation?

Thanks,
Shawn

On my Power-Row skiff project, there was probably just barely enough cloth to cover if you were very careful and knew just how to lay and cover.

I had cloth left over from other projects so I wasn't concerned about getting it just right.

Cloth isn't that expensive, so don't fret it if you need to buy a small bit of it(only needed enough extra to cover my transom)....I still have some odds & end left for the next one!!

When in doubt give Glen-L a call and talk about it. I used a 60" cloth that I cut in half for my Malahini sides. I overlapped my chines on the sides and bottoms and hand plenty left over.

If I remember right, my widest spot was about 25" like yours. I suppose you can just overlap the bottom after feathering the sides a little. I applied a spray-rail over my chines and covered the corners.

Thanks for the replies! Iggy, I did contact glen-l today and they said that the intent was for only the bottom fiberglass to cover the chine, and that the sides didn't need to cover the chine.

I guess I like the idea of overlapping the chine twice, and had I known that there wouldn't be enough material on the side I probably would have allowed a wider area of overlap at the chine when covering the bottom. Oh well. I think I'm going to go ahead and overlap the chine from the side, and I I'll probably just need to order enough additional glass to cover the other side (to your point upspirate).

Thanks again for the help,
Shawn
