Roberta,

Thanks for the link. Also the switch is now working. Some contact cleaner did the trick.

Sounds like a super motor, Charlie. 140 psi is brand new motor compression--brand new rings, pistons, bore job, etc.

When you get your flywheel pulled, measure the hole size on top and bottom of the flywheel and let me know by PM. We'll compare to the flywheel I have.

When you're ready, I'll cut you an adaptor ring from one of my old blocks. You just place it on top of your starter ring (after removing the locator pin) and bolt your starter right up from underneath. Piece of cake!

FYI: Those old controls came from the factory in Mercury Green or wrinkle black. Doesn't seem sacreligious to me to match the color the color of your controls to the color of your boat but you know the purests will gag.

Randy

Speaking of old Merc controls, I have the original controls for my Mark 35A and have 'wrinkle' paint and new 'decals' - my question is on my old control (dual lever) on one side the 'bar' - running front to back with the mercury name - is bare aluminium and on the other side that 'bar' is wrinkle black - what did the originals have?

The side that was out was the bare aluminum for contrasting trim

When I get ready to mount the ones I use, I will polish the silver bands

Interesting, Warren and thanks for the tip. I just ran down and checked the controls from my 1960 400. They are wrinkle black with key switch and choke. Like you said, bright trim on one side, everything painted on the other. Although I'm becoming a stickler for all things Mercury, I'm going to allow myself a little artistic license and do the controls your way--bright on both sides!

Randy, look close and you'll see a bracket bolted to the backside of the box that's aluminum silver, not the backside box stripes.

I've never seen another of these brackets,it's a rare accessory I think, so you can vary the mounting angle as it has a range of angles that you can set.

Thanks Randy, I will let you know when I get the flywheel measured.

I don't want to make anyone gag but I would like to repaint the motor with the original colors of Sunset Orange and Sand Tan and would think it would look funny having Green or Black controls.

BTW, I now believe it is a 56 by the serial number and decals.

I think if I was to paint them, I'd do the paint in Sunset Orange, and polish the raised aluminum.

I have a Mark 25 in those same colors BTW.
