Nice work! I am like you, those areas look a little harsh and I like the way you have softened the look. I am thinking of tapering the rear deck all the way back, retaining the curve, but not sure how it will work out. Have to experiment when I get there. Another thing I want is to put "hard points" so she can be lifted on davits easily. I am not at all sure how to accomplish it yet, I assume a threaded rod all the way down to a strong bearer between the stringers with thos nifty Glen-L lifting eyes attached. That means some strengthening and space allocation in those already busy areas. Dreams are free I guess... ;)

had a fun and productive day. worked on the transom a bit and then worked on the top battens

File comment: hey track, here's the forward lift mount which will be bolted to the stem. I welded a SS coupler nut to a fabricated strap. I too have a Glen-l lifting eye for the front.

decided it was time to glue up the steering wheel sections. next step is to get it mounted on a lathe chuck and turn the outside. the inside requires all handwork. pokey work, but I think it will be worth it.

Dean.... Everything looks really nice as I expected it would....Just curious as to the width you decided on for your king plank and decking boards as well as the spacing between planks. Whatever you used certainly looks great. Beautiful workmanship......Neel

Decision on width was quite simple, actually. When I was ripping the side planks, I used my 10" table saw with a .060" Freud blade. My maximum depth of cut is ~ 3". With a flip, that means 6" maximum width without a lot of post work. I got eight planks out of a 2" thick plank of mahogany. These got ripped in half to ~ 2 3/4", which is the width you see. I stacked and marked them as they came off the saw, and when I placed them on the boat, they were book-matched laid. (right, flip left...right, flip left, and so on). King plank is two book-matched pieces glued together. Same plank runs from bow to cockpit.

The first layer of the forward raised deck is on. I'll add the second, then the planking. I've left the clamp unglued, so I can take off the entire top deck and hang it from the ceiling, allowing me to work on the various systems and install the engine. When all is done, I'll drop the deck down, cut it apart in the appropriate places, and glue the rear deck in place. I'll install the engine hood hinges and finish the mother-in-law seat compartment.

Dean,,,, Nice work, and a great Idea to hang the raised deck from the ceiling.....I think it is too late for me to try that....What thickness of plywood are you using for each layer of the raised deck ? Take care,,,,Neel

I'm using 2 layers, one 4mm and one 1/4". The top mahog planking is also 4mm.

Dean, she looks great !!! I haven't posted pictures lately, but have been working on decks and mechanicals. I bought everything I need to do the plumbing, exhaust, and some of the electrical. I have the motor out now to paint the engine compartment and then it will go in for the fourth and final time and get hooked up. Then I will finish the deck framing and final decking. I will post pics soon. Take care, and get that motor in there !!! Neel
