I'm new to the building part of this hobby. We restored a 1955 Carver outboard a few years ago and have taken it up to the wood boat show in Eagle River the last couple of years. Now it's time for an inboard, so I finally started on the Mist Miss project that I bought the plans for five years ago. After locating the correct white oak locally, I've got 4 of 8 frames done now. I bought a jet boat with a blown motor for the jet drive and marine parts and trailer for less than a used jet drive in Wausau last month. Looking forward to making the frames look more like a boat in the coming months. Anyone else building an inboard in central Wisconsin?

shadetree,

If you are ever in the Tulsa area the best deal I've found for white oak locally is at White & Son. It's a small place but the guy has been great to work with.

I found the white oak (and just about everything you could imagine) at Granite Valley Hardwoods, they're a distributo about 25 minute from my house. At $2.74 bd-ft I got 120 ft for about $300, should be all I need for the framing including the motor stringers (two lengths laminated together) They're two sides sanded to 15/16" and have worked out great so far. They came in at 13'-14' and 6"-8" wide.
