frame 5 does not have deck beam, but on most of the build photo's one is there.?
Is this done to add strength whilst building ?
Also I am about to cut out the stem and I noticed that the base that buts to frame 8 is not square to the breast hook surface (about 92deg) is that correct ?

Have done my stringers and build form and went crazy trying to get level and straight.
level is level but had to settle for straightness tolerance of 0.5mm.
(I am an mechanical engineer and possibly being too pedantic?)

I built with all the deck beams in place to help hold the shape. Your build frame is fine. Your right to try to get things square and true. But, wood moves.

That's pretty darn straight. I think you're fine there.
What's more important is making sure that the whole form is sturdy and braced enough so that it won't shift once you get it where you want it.

As far as your stem is concerned, it sounds about right to me. It's the same way in my celerity. The connection to the breasthook is supposed to sweep upward, so once the boat is flipped, it should point upward a few degrees in relation to the keel.

Jenko.

Yes, you will install deck beams on every frame assembly. This will add strength as you build but also give you the flexibility to create the look you want when you finish the inside. You will move or remove certain frames for your cockpits. In my cast #6 moved forward, #5 was removed and #4 moved backward.

Do not glue your deck beams to the side members. ONLY bolt them to make it easier later on.

Yes, frame #8 is not perpendicular to the breast hook but it is perpendicular to the motor stringers and deck (if you had extended them that far). Remember the breast hook is the area where the keel turns up to meet the deck in the bow so the frame cannot be perpendicular at this point. BE SURE to secure your breast hook to the floor so that it does not move during installation of the battens, chine and sheers. There is a lot of symmetrical torque in this area but installing one side at a time causes the torque to lose its balance.

thanks guys that sets my mind at ease. I can already see that c & c time is going to be greater than building time

Jenko

When you add, research+material sourcing+C&C time, the actual build time doesn't seem so long.

Engineers work to the nearest thousandth,
Carpenters work to the nearest 16th,
Boatbuilders work to the nearest boat

(Just a joke, many of the boats built here are beauties of perfection, at least to the observer, if not to the builder)

I hear you Brian until we have to place those powerplants to within .003" tolerance and mount it to WOOD (you know, that building material that moves, swells, twists, shrinks and causes all types of mayhem to which we are addicted).
