Hey Guys, Im finding it hard to believe, The GPS on my wifes phone says 48mph. Im not sure how accurate that is. What do you think?

Try checking it against the car speedo when in the car.

12' with a 40HP Merc....yep could very well be!!!

Did you ever check it with the Johnson??

Cold damp dense weather could help the power out too....maybe not quite as fast in hot summer air.

If its accurate that's FLYING! . I've yet to see an inaccurate GPS. You sure you arent messing with us and had it set on Kilometers per hour?


For comparison I get 30mph with my 1975 40hp Mercury on a much heavier slightly longer Zip

Thanks Chris, she must of had it on kilometers. I calculated it to be 30 mph. Sounds more like it to me. Im carrying on like a school girl in that video, I cannot believe that didnt occur to me. Wow, not so high on life now.
Damn cant believe it, If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. I never used one of these smiley face things before, but it seems called for now.

A friend told me his new 49cc scooter with him and his wife would run 50 some MPH. I told him I'd never seen one that did.....same thing... kilos....he was let down big time!!

looks like way to much fun. Motor sounds great keep up the great work. I found a Mark 55 myself will be picking it up on the 21st.

not sure what prop Chris. 2 blades part #22914. Yeah, i should be doing a little better i thought that also. Im made no adjustments to the carbs, or the transome height. Im sure the motor can come up a bit. I was running at maximum negative trim. I did try adjusting the trim. 1st time i tried it on the 3 rd holefrom the tramson, 2nd try was the second hole from the transome. Both times the bow was bouncing around, i was unconfortable so i went back to the hole closest the transom and I was pleased with the ride. my friend and I are each, at least 250lbs, I had a battery, 6 gallons of gas and a few tools bags. She had the GPS on KILOMETERS, Im almost posative anyway.............................my wife is a riot...those are the things that make me love her more. I went from such a high, to such a low. Thank god it was only because of the speed of my boat. I kinda feel fortunate. Those are the problems that you want. Karen you are the bomb. love you.

We typically see 30-31 MPH @ 5600 RPM with the 1956 Mk 55 on our Zip. Switching to an 11"-pitch prop drops the RPM to approximately 4800 RPM with no increase in performance. Our motor has never been overhauled, so it's possible that a fresh Mk 55 would add a couple of knots to our top end. Once I get that Merc 500 in the garage put back together, a "couple more knots" will not be a problem.

On these small boats I am sure 30 mph feels a lot faster... closer to the water, lighter on the waves!

I believe 50 kph = 31.25 mph, a respectable speed for that engine/boat.

Nothing else I've built with my 2 hands goes anywhere close to that speed
