So I used the epoxy/ graphite mix for the bottom but then primed the whole boat and painted it! If the bottom paint gets scratched then no biggie as long as the graphite is there to protect the hull!

I could be wrong, but I thought the graphite was supposed to be left exposed. Isn't it the graphite itself that allows the boat to "smooth over" rocks, sand, etc.?

Yes you are correct! It'll still work the same bout paint will scratch off if slid over rocks or warreva.... main reason i put it on there is for more protection :)

Any idea about stretching this to 24 feet?

Heres where I'm at now.. Gonna flip her over today :)

Love that blue! I might have to "steal it". ;)

I'm not a designer, so I have no idea how to stretch a design (except for the common 10% rule).
The mods might whip me with a wet noodle for saying this, but you may have to look at other plan makers out there to find what you want.

Well I'm feeling loyal to Glen-L since thats where it all started for me and like to stick here :D

This blue is from VW called Techno blue ;) All yours

So another question i have and hope to get some answers to... Whats the best alternatives for bottom rails other than the aluminum L shaped strips that the plans call for?
How many should i put? How long? etc
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

You mean spray rails?

I would have assumed spray rails would need to be built into the hull prior to paint....

Rails for directional stability at higher speeds...

Helllllp lol

The plans call for a length of L shaped aluminum but id like to use something different... maybe made out of wood glassed then epoxied/ screwed on the bottom.. no?

Cheers

I believe you are not getting any answers to this as we are not familiar with using aluminum on here.....as you know from your other plans, this is not common so we are perplexed!!

I have several great shots of rails I installed on another simular build. Let me sort through some shots this evening and will post what I did on a sixteen footer. Glue with a tab or glass works just fine after fastening the rails to the bottom. By some chance can you take a shot of the particular application from the plans that may also help to provide an accurate reproduction of the rails in several shots in different locations.

I was referring to the use of aluminum rails on the wooden Flats Flyer design....that's not common on other wood Glen-L designs.

oyster should have some good answers for you

This is what I did on a simular style hull. I don't recall ever seeing aluminum L=channel on a bottom of any pleasure runabout myself. I am also a big fan of a small skeg centerline keel. Some of the flat bottom boats use just a rectangle piece fastened to the under skin. I also use a wedge type rail along the chines and allow them to continue up to the bow of this flats boat and they work as lifting strakes and some measure of a sprayrail in some of the shorter and shallower waters. I know that you have already painted your boat. But its easy to tape off an area and work to a tape line with any and all additional glue or paint work, especially since its on the bottom.

Heres a lil update to where i am at with this build... A lil slow but coming along. I layed the fiberglass on the deck and epoxied it. then hit the whole thing with gelcoat and anti skid.
I guess i can say I'm at the rigging stage now!

Where to start? What should the sequence be?

Also in regards to the console.... whats the best way to attach it to the floor?

Im planning to just attach the flooring which is 18mm marine ply encapsulated with epoxy with screws and silicone then I'm gonna lay some teak on it.

Cheers
Zane
