FYI, I called Dave Lott this morning...he and his family are fine. Branson is a mess from the storm and tornado. I'm sure he will check in as he is able.

Oh man, I can't believe we are already having to deal with this so early in the year.

WOW, What a day. We just got internet back up. At 1:45 this morning we had an F2 tornado form over Kimberling City, MO at the marina. It tracked due east crossing a number of subdivisions, came by my home less than 300 yards, ripped a marina apart below me and then tracked straight down our main street of theaters. We have between 20-30 hotels destroyed or so damaged they will not open this year. Another 6 or so theaters are damaged, three will be demolished. Countless support businesses. Despite all the damage the town is getting back on track in a hurry. Our tourist season starts next week. There still is about 10,000 available hotel rooms and 30 theaters that were not damaged. The media is sensationalizing it to make it appear that all of Branson was destroyed. That simply is not the case. I hope we can stop the media damage before the economy of this town is destroyed this year.

These 2 homes were next to me. This is the marina across from me on my cove.

I am shocked at the level of response from the region. Within hours there were hundreds of support crews, contruction equipment, disaster relief and utility crews. By 4 this afternoon, the main road was cleared and all utility poles put back up. This is over a mile of road that was impassable from debris. Amazing!!!!!!!!

We hope to have power back to our hotels tomorrow. Right now we are biting our nails for starting next week we are full again with folks after being empty for the winter.

My heart is going out to all the folks that lost their jobs today.

But there is a big big silver lining in all of this and maybe one day I will discuss.

Happy it missed you Dave. I was just in Joplin a few weeks ago visiting my brother (I grew up there). I hope Branson recovers faster than they have.

The Ozarks just can't catch a break!

I have lived in this home for 5 years. This is the 3rd spring, I have had a tornado within yards of my home. CRAZY stuff

We will recover very fast. There is a big silver lining to all of this

1. Most of the hotels needed to be removed. Old, out of date, bad shape and poor quality. We have too many for the amount of tourist we have. At least 10 of the damaged ones will be condemned and not replaced.
2. The owners will get an insurance settlement that exceeds what the place could be sold for (it probably could not be sold anyway)
3 This opens up the land many new developers want for new business that did not to have to pay for an existing hotel and then have to demo it.
4. The local economy will get a several $100M boost from reconstructiino
5. The other hotels damaged will be closed for 4-6 months which allows the rest of us to get more occupancy which helps out bad cash reserves for the last 2 years.
6. We can now start raising our hotel rates to something more realistic. I am sorry but $29 and $39 per night rooms is not sustainable anywhere but that is what these destroyed hotels were offering in order to try to stay alive. In fact, one of them had gone to weekly rentals just to bring in a dollar.

We will lose at least 3 theaters. But we have theaters not being used at all and closed down. This will bring acts back to the closed theaters. The damaged theaters will be condemned and bulldozed. More land for new businesses will open up.

Yes, sometimes we cannot see the forest for the trees but I am seeing the mighty hand of our Father just giving us a big present with His mighty grace undeserved.

Glad you're OK. On the coast, I some times call storms Civic Improvement Hurricanes. What is damaged or distroyed often was overdue to be fixed or replaced.

As long as nobody gets hurt.

Sounds like you got lucky Dave! If I were one of those business owners I think I would take that insurance money and run. Hope it all works out for the better in the end.
