Got this photo to load. Motor is in place and first protective coat of marine spar varnish is on. For the fist time the true color of the wood is visible. Can't believe it.



The shaft was ordered at 50 inches. Should get it from Glen-l in the next week or so.

Starting to make the mock up of the motor compartment - console. The electrical componets need to be figured out before actually building it.

I finally got the prop and rudder in. Can't tell you how long I agonized over cutting that hole in the bottom of the boat. Prop lined up to within 1/8 to 1/4 inch on dead center. Hope being off just a little won't matter because I can't go back and redo it. The shaft ended up 50 inches long. Glen-L did a great job getting the shaft and strut.

Re worked the Moc up again for the final time. This was number 3 but it works. Also got the rudder control designed, fabricated, installed and it works great! Now I am on to the the real build of the steering console.



The telfelx cable needed to make the loop bend to shorten for the fit. I designed a console between the seats to acomodate the bend and movement needed for the tiller and cable motion.

Making the steering console is a major project. Had to be the most difficult part of the project but finally finished. At this point woking on the boat is like working on a piece of artwork. Fun and immense satisfaction!
Covering the console with West Marine teak oil.

It has been some time since I poasted but my life has been busy. I have been consistantly working on the boat though. I decided to paint the interior with the Interlux Interdeck Sand Beige YJOO9, It really covered good and gave a very flat finished that did a good job of covering the seams and slight imperfections in the fiberglassing.

Placed 9 coats of Pettit z-Spar 1015 Captains Varnish on the decking. Yes, I faithfully sanded each coat. I noticed that around the 6th coat the sanding became much easier since the surface was almost perfectly flat. I don't have a dust proof enviorment and wonder if there is some sort of polishing compund at this point that I can finish if off with?

I also greased the bearing for the shaft. Any recomemdations for that ? I started using a marine grease that is used for bearing buddies on trailers and stopped.

I can't believe it has been so long that I am forgetting how to use the site. Senior moment. I know I am leaving myself open on that one.

I finished the final installation of the steering system and console. The picture shows it as it is now in working condition and seems to be working well. I am going to rethink the area over the sterring loop though. I thought it was all worked out but as usual a little modification will need to be made. The back pannel instead of being in one piece will have to be in two pieces to give better acess to the steering system as well as the DC electrical system. Notice I have now installed the two speakers for the stero system. ( That will bring comments.)

The two cross areas just in front on the motor and a little further forward will carry the cables for the battery connections. I also installed two LED blue courtesy lights in this area.


This is the side view of motor with the steering console and electrical tray placement. I will need to make a door opening for the charging system and we are planning two cooling fans as well.
Mike informed me that working with EVA has been great and almost all the problems in the electrical hookup have been worked out. Expect to starting working in that area next weekend.



As I start actually assembling the electrical will post over on the electrical forum. I am looking for a 48V DC on/off key switch.

I found the deck hardware in bronze from Spartan Marine 800-325-3287. Great people to work with. http://www.spartanmarine.com

As always this build has and is really fun and could not be done without all of your thoughts and comments.

Instead of a 48V key switch, how about a regular key switch off 12V hooked to a relay for the 48V?
