Plans arrived today and all panels were cut tonight.

This is a S&G project that will take only a couple of weeks. A very quick build.

Tomorrow night, the panels will be glued up and pieces laid out for cutting. Once I get the parts cut and ready to assemble, I will post up some pics. Thought I would finish it to match Midnight Cry.

Well, I take that back on the couple of weeks. Next week, "Renewed Spirit" will be coming home. My poor truck will clock another 3500 miles in the next 10 days

Why does everyone assume just because a build is stitch and glue it is a quick build. Yes, you are quick to see results once you stitch things together, but then comes fillets, sanding of fillets, applying tape, sanding of tape.
Oh heck, I forgot who I was talking to. Professor you will be done in two days tops.
Dave, if by chance you need any help, you know how to reach me. :P
Good luck, and we want to see a video of you on this stand up paddle when you are done.   :P

Ah, ok, thanks.
In that case, I can definitely see it taking only a couple weeks.
My initial thought was "what boat can you build in just a couple weeks???"

It looks like it is pretty easy to paddle one of those things. They are long, wide and about 4" thick. I saw a 40-something year old woman paddling one last fall. It has to be easier than wind surfing or kite boarding...right? :? I'd love to try it, but, I'd probably wind up with an expensive new toy that nearly drowns me and I would never use it again   Good luck Dave.

AND DON"T YOU FORGET IT

I was actually looking at all of these ribs. WOW, there is a lot of bandsaw work coming up. I will get the panels done tonight but I believe it might take a fortnight to do these ribs.

Those do look fun and the wood ones are works of art. There is an 80-ish yr old looking guy that paddles one often where I kayak. He sure gets around on that paddleboard nicely. Probably a great alternative to a kayak for folks with knee's that dont bend like they used to.

Looking forward to the pics Dave.

All the hull pieces were cut tonight. I find that using an ice pick to transfer the lines from the paper to the wood a lot easier than using carbon paper particularly when flipping the pattern. I just line up my corner points and stick a nail in the hole at both ends of the pattern. It lines the pattern right up

So hopefully tomorrow night I will stitch up the hull. Does someone want to cut out the ribs for me?

I would recognize that CLC instruction manual anywhere. If that is the Kaholo, they do sell the frames for $49 pre-cut

ahh, but that would take the fun out of it.

But in all honesty. The frames take a half sheet of 6mm which costs almost $80 plus shipping. It would be far cheaper to buy the precut ribs from CLC, however, I already had the 6mm. So the agony of all those cuts start tonight after I stitch up the hull. Now, the admiral states she might be taking this one from me which means I will have to build another one. If that happens I will order the precut frames out of sheer money saving not to mention the time. I only imagine these frames will take twice the time the entire hull took.

And all kidding aside. Just because something is S&G doesn't make it less of a boat that a cold moulded. Many people get that wrong idea. Skill in cutting, alignment, and finishing are still required if you want anything. However, S&G does have one advantage - it is a lot quicker assembly. I had already built a sea kayak, S&G. I am amazed how solid that flimsy 3mm plywood gets when it is all stitched together.

So true. Because it was so quick, I'm going to build another s&g boat: either a Bingo, a sailboat or another kayak...maybe a sup once I see video of you standing and paddling yours. This is my first s&g build and it is solid as a rock.
