I started the console for over the motor. Decided to make an exact mock up to make sure everything would fit. Didn't work. Console has to be taller to accomadate the steering system. The forward brace motor support needed to be moved inside and also needs a shorter brace. The grease fittings had to be repositioned for accessability and the motor adjustment brace will need a notch for access. The next one should be better. Actually the process is fun and the console will be even better.

This is the second mock up and I think it wll work. My next challange is the figure out how to connect the steering cable to a fixed rudder. This seems like another project all together. The rudder tiller moves in an arc and the push pull rod only moves in and out. Any ideas. My cable is 6 feet long and will just fit into the space. It is the smallest one I could fine.

You are right. I have looked at the product put have a real problem in the confined space of the Lo Volt stern to place it somewhere to bring the long end of the telflex push pull rod near parallel to the rudder arm. I need to have the rotation and space to make it work.

Bob, you can use a bell crank set-up maybe so the cable can parallel the keel,and attach to a 90 degree bell crank to change direction to the rudder quadrant or "tiller" arm

Since the last post in this area I have finished all I can do without Mike. He has been working with EVA getting the schematic finalized with their approval before we start connecting everything up. I had to rework the console over the steering cable so the rear panel that holds the 12volt Electrical, radio and control panel could be easily removed. Our big problem today was the placement of the main disconnect. Decided to place it in the battery compartment on the starbord side. Will show picture of this when it is installed.

Mike and I pondering the complexity of the electrical system in this design.


Mike looking a little perplexed as we were deciding on the placement of the various components to have the shortest travel of wiring.


Mike will be pulling together some loose ends next week. I will be going on a cruse with Diane from Montreal Canada around Nova Scotia ending up in Boston.
I am begining to think the boat will be launched sometime toward the end of June or first of July.

I wanted to let everyone know that I am still working on the boat. The electrical system is really complicated. The schematic has been redone ten time and is now in its eleventh revision.
The 48 Volt part of the system is now in place.
Cut and placed in nearly 27 feet of #1 welding cable. Takes a special tool to cut and special tool to crimp along with a 4 LB sledge hammer.

Maybe it will be done by G6 and maybe not.

The electrical is almost done. This part of the project has been the most difficult to complete. Mike is having to design the electrical layout, check it over with Bob and EVA, (Who by the way is a geat guy to have on your team and work with.) think about it then we place it in the boat.

This is the completed 12volt electrical with the starter battery.
The 12 volt system was designed to power the running lights, radio, bilge pump, interior lighting, depth sounder. This system will work if the 48 Volt system is down. When the 48 volt system is up then the converter takes over and runs everything and recharges the small 12 volt starter battery.


This is the 48 Volt system now connected up.


We discoverd when all was finished there was low voltage feedback to the controller from the 12 volt system. That problem is being resolved this week so we can move ahead with a possible launch this Saturdy after the trailer is remodified Firday.

Hi Bob,

I built the Lo Voltage (Aqua Therapy) last year and am not satisfied with the electric drive unit at all...the gears in the lower unit ended up being very loud...even after rebuilding with new bearings...so onto drydock and rip it all out and go with a system with straight shaft like yours. Looking good, keep up the good work!

Mike expressed the feeling he wanted one of us with a fire extinquisher in hand when the key is turned.
Will have 380 amps at 48 volts charging through the system toward the motor under control.

We have many fuses and designed safegards to turn things off if not working correctly.
