Well second coat on and WOW. I am even Impressed.
I have sprayed on thousands of coats of lacquer in my 25yrs of being in the furniture building business and I am still amazed at how great mahogany wood looks with gloss finish on it.

Well last night my son and I scuffed the 2nd sealer coat in peperation for the first coat on high build Pettits varnish.
I am from the old school of wood finishing. I have always sanded between coat to get a really nice smoth finish. So that is what I plan on doing. Don't know if it will make a big difference or not. But I have felt some really nice looking finishes on restorered mahogany boats. That look good but feel like not enough care was taken to prevent dust getting stuck in the finish.
here are a couple of pics. I will not post every coat.
Now for a couple of questions.
When did you paint the water line. Before flipping up right on not.
Were yor sides completley finished before flipping.
How many coats of varnish did you use.

Thats coming out lovely I hope mine comes out half as good. I did my waterline while it was on the building frame using a laser level but I'm not sure if it's in the right place :D you could always wait till you put it in the water and then mark it out that way you can't go wrong. keep the photos coming and making me jealous.

Looking Great!!! I finished my bottom to the waterline. I left the sides just resin coated until I finished the deck. Actually I did varnish before the flip, but I was not happy with the finish, so I sanded back to the resin. I did not want to risk damaging the side finish doing the deck, so I finished them together. The sides certainly could be done before the flip, you just need to be more careful.

Daayaaam, its so pretty! 8)

I waited to clear the sides until the deck was ready for clear at the end of the build. I did the waterline stripe a day or so before doing the clear.
