Nice!!! If I build something else, there will definitely be some red on it somewhere. I suppose a flip is just around the corner.

Drilled out the hole for the prop shaft :D , I had been putting it off a bit just incase things went wrong. The angle was worked out from the engine setup and then marked on a bit of scrap wood where I drilled out a hole to take the extension bar holding the 2" bit, I also put a block of wood on the keel inside and out the same angle as the bit to give the tip a starting point and so it would not start walking when it came through. I went this way as I haven't got my strut made yet.

Image

All in all it went well except for the sawdust and smoke under the boat from drilling a 10" x 2" hole in mahogany while lying on your back, in the end it came out spot on target I now have to epoxy in a fiberglass tube to seal it up and then cut it down to size

Image

I started making the strut from 10mm stainless steel just have to get the tube to hold the cutlass bearing and weld them up and give it a polish.

The new strut cut out and welded up.

Image

Image

I just have to sink it a bit more into the hull and then fiberglass it up along with the prop tube that will hold the stuffing box.

Image

It will be a bit tight fitting the rudder but should fit  it will be offset 1" to the side so the prop shaft can be removed, after the filling is done I will do another 3-4 coats of paint and a good polish.

Image

Well this is the way it's turning out "it just might work" I think I will just flatten out where the plate is on the rudder and recess it to let the water have a smooth run by.

Fergal.

What are the dimensions of your Skeg and prop?
Are you building the standard length or the extended length?

Time.

Hi Time, the skeg is 4"x5"x6" high the strut is 14 degrees with a 6 1/2" drop and the prop is 13x13 four blade I didn't pick this prop it came with the donor boat so I have no idea how it will work.
I am building it standard length " extra 10% would be handy" with a V8 chevy and a 1-1 gearbox I don't think it has been done before with an inboard rudder so only time will tell how it rides :D

I moved the boat forward by putting a few bits of pipe under the building frame and just rolled it out, next I added two 8 foot lengths of 4x2 to the boat to use as handles and to keep it off the ground.

Image

It was a bit tight on one side :D

Image

Sorry no photo of the turn as my hands were full, but with the help of 3 mates and a few beers we got her on her side then lifted it up from the bottom and over she went.

Image

Image

For the first time she is looking like a boat but I had not got enough room to take her for a spin

Very nice Fergal--that's a true DIY'er who makes his own boat hardware!
