Hi all! After a half-year break, I’m working toward finishing my first boat -- the Glen-L 15 -- hopefully in time for the summer season.

Right now, I’m trying to come up with a plan for completing the boat that will involve the least amount of jockeying it around.
I don’t have much “strong-arm” help available (most of my friends are as old, banged-up and broken as I am), so I’m trying to be smart instead.

Here’s the workflow sequence I’m thinking of:

-- finish coat the bottom
-- flip the hull & put it on trailer, outside (mild weather)
-- finish coat the topsides
-- install cockpit coaming, centerboard, and deck/ chain plates
-- finish and install rudder, seats and floorboards
-- install aluminum spar, boom and rigging
-- touch up paint & launch

Am I leaving anything out? Doing anything in the wrong order (chain plates after finish, for example?) Making problems for myself?

I’d appreciate your opinions.

Here’s a picture of the primed hull in my workroom. (Hope it fits out the door!)

I would fit the chain plates, then instal them after the finish paint.

Rest sounds fine to me!!!

Nice job! :D

Thanks!
Would you mind clarifying what you mean about "fit" vs. "install" the chain plates?

I'm not sure how they install on your build, but if they go on the outside and is drilled and through-bolted through the hull,it's not a big deal.
But if you have to cut into the deck and insert it through the deck and bolt it, you would be better off doing any cutting, fitting before you finish so you can touch up anything before paint/varnish.

Sounds like you have it covered. I started a GlenL-15 last February and finished it last August (mostly). Looks like you are doing a great job. Your finish is going to be better than mine. I have sailed mine quite a bit and I am well pleased with it's performance. I have had a 15' Compact (a tank) and a 17' Hobie cat and I like this much better. I have a lot of pictures of the work you mention and I would be happy to share them. My Email is jeffmckie@gmail.com send me yours and I will pass them along. I never did figure out how to post pictures on the boatbuilder connection.

Good luck and enjoy the build.
