I also found out how to turn a 65 into an 85

Building the motor is almost as much fun as building the boat.

Fedex delivered the Evinrude paint yesterday. So I've been sanding, cleaning and painting all morning. I thought the color was going to be darker; but it turns out it matches the original.
This is the only way to paint a motor. :D

The two wires I replaced on the timing base were going to cost me $30 each.

Fergal, I left the block and heads the original color. The dang power head is too heavy to carry around. I'm an old lady.

That's because you painted it upside down.
Yours looks like a fastwin 15 or 18. The rubber lower mounts make it at least a 55 or later. The three drilled holes in the side of the hood for the emblem might indicate 57 or 58 18 HP. But then, I'm just guessing. :D

I do know my vintage Evinrudes. I had a 1955 Big Twin 25 on a 12 foor Whirlwind when I was in high school. "Aquasonic" Manual start, grunt. I had to straddle the rear seat and use both hands to pull the starter.

Everything I can make on my current projects is going toward the down payment on a local boat repair shop. The owner is retiring. The Chris Craft Continental bottom refinish job hasn't come yet. Hoping to have that here this coming weekend.
