I learned a trick the other day and thought I would share it.

Tension the blade to where you think it should be. Raise the guide up as far as it will go. Put a right angle against the blade and push on the blade. The right angle should no move more that 1/4 inch from the blade.

My old Grissly does not have a tension guide and this seems to work well with it.

John, I will try that as I have a Griz too. I use the "pluck" method right now and listen for a note that has no harmonic...it is not scientific...but the problem I have even with your method is that I am 230lb and six feet tall...how much pressure do I push with....Look at Ray Macke that scrawney little guy who is 5'8 and 165lbs in perfect physical condition...he probably won't deflect the blade as much as me even at the same tension...so what is the answer? They make a tension guage but will all MFG's give you the recommended tension rating of their blades??

I am lost!

But I am still going to try your method.

Steve

Thanks

I just push on it not with all my power. It seems to work well for me. Alot better than the recommended way in the book - loosen until slips then tight half turn.

I saw it in Wood Magazine and it saws it will work on all bandsaws, not just Grizzly.

I priced the tensioning tool and it is high, unless they have come out with cheaper models.
