Hi Ya'll - so happy to be able to share this with you all - for those that gave me good advise (whether or not I used it is another matter) - and to those still travelling the long and weary road of boat building. It's a load off one's shoulders, a day to remember and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. Stop me before I blather any longer.

Tongue weight came in at 175 lb. - tad heavy perhaps but better a bit heavy than light in my books

Top speed on the famously innacurate pitot speedometer came to a rousing 27 mph, and I'm thrilled with that, what with running a 53 year old Merc Mark 35A - 35 HP/4CYL. The engine could use a tad tweak up on the idle now that I've had it under load but she ran like a champion.

Other than getting lost on the lake, thinking my engine was starting to die when it was only that I had been remiss in opening the vent on the cruiser tank the trip was flawless, and a beautiful day.

The second hole up from the bottom did indeed prove to be the majic spot. She has just a slilght slide in a wide open turn but anything short of theat she turns sharply.

Ps: Waater Line came out right on the money with fuel tank in rear.

Building a Flying Saucer

Looks like it rides great, it has the familiar sound of the water lapping against the plywood. The motor sounds as good as it looks too. Gotta love it when the waterline comes out just the way you pictured it! I bet your speedo is pretty darn close.

Nice to see it complete and in the water. Enjoy! Now go back out and stare at the boat in amazement of what you accomplished!

I've restored an outboard engine and two cars - but this is larger and better. The mechanical things I did a great on, but all the pieces were there -I just took them apart and put them together again - perhaps in some ways better than they were originally.

This was starting out with a pile of rough cut lumber, some sheets of plywood off a tall stack - and making a boat out of it. I can understand how this could be addictive. None the less, this is my first, last and only boat.

I still need a replacement stator to fix the charging system and the tach input, and the throttle cable came disconnected towards the end of the run, leaving me with just enough throttle for a leisurely return to the dock from whence we started.

I still need to sand and refinish the satin varnish on the frames that got damaged from the taping to varnish the exterior and this boat is far from faultless, but is a boat I buit and I take pride in it, warts and all, because the imperfections represent what I have learned.

It's been a pleasure getting to know you all through this forum and it has been a very rewarding experience. I will continue to participate in this forum and share what little I have learned from this process.

Congratulations.

Ok, I have a question to ask. Where did you get your corner pieces for your windshield? I could not find anything to finish the corners so I flattened and polished a pc of aluminum tubing as a wrapping. It works but I would like to have it more finished.
