On my search for an ignition switch for Gentry I came across this:

Depending on cost, it might be the way to go for me. I envisage a fold down panel under the dash so it doesn't detract from the general look of the boat.

Well, that was a short-lived dream. They are $1350-ish. $29 for an ignition switch with two keys suddenly seems very appropriate again...

Now see, I would have added something cool like that to my boat to go with my actuator lift hatch and remote sound system. But alas, I did not even think of it.

Davelott funny you should mention your hatch I was just watching the video today trying to work what type of hinges you used did you get it fine tuned in the end I would love to see it in full action.

Works like a champ.

Scroll down to the LGH Type 2 hinge and watch the video. I mounted mine in reverse and used an actuator to lift the hatch out of its hole. If I had known that all I had to do was offset the edge of the hatch I could have used a simply "C" hinge. A lot cheaper and lot easier.

Actually, I have Al working on a computer program that greets me with a sexy voice when I power up and monitors everything. We'll see how he gets on. This was just an interim measure.

I'll probably use a Start button and have a hidden toggle switch to "lock" it. Fact is, on the lakes I frequent most boats are docked with the keys left in them.

As long as it is electric start, there is absolutely no reason it can't. Worst case you might have to put in a timed shutdown relay for a magneto based engine.

Boats with keys? when did that happen?

A key is just something else I have to remember to take with. Toggle switches work just fine, and I don't have to worry about them sinking to the bottom of a lake (without taking the boat with them).

Some plan to stroll through Saint Peter's Gates, I plan to go through them at 150mph... backwards... in a screaming ball of flame, with a glimmer belt wrapped around my head, and a NOx button in my hand.

One could use an off the shelf bio reader used in door access control.
All bio readers are useless if wet and fail to scan if finger/thumb is slightly greasy.
Personally I would avoid bio readers.
I would however use a vandal proof proximity reader and tag.
