Hi Doug-As an intro,I have purchased the Titan hull from Carlos.I am also a newby on the Glen-L forum,this being my first post.
Progress has been steady and with the help of a pro fabricator the build will be suitable for the type of offshore conditions we have here south of Sydney Australia.
We have been modifying some of the existing work to suit our needs and at present are going about installing the hydraulic steering component along with the prop shaft,engine etc.
Congratulations to you on your project-Hope the launch gives you great pleasure(afterall this is what it is all about!)

Great to hear from you Scott . I'm certain you will get as much enjoyment from the build as I have...possibly even more as the bull work of building the hull is pretty well done.

Thanks Doug-One thing we are scratching our head about, is the amount of inboard ballast and where to place it.
I know there is a formula and even considered a water ballast system for lightweight trailering(got too hard!).
It has been decided to go for lead ballast and encapsulate in polyurethane so as not to allow a reaction with the Aluminium hull.
I'm sure trial and error will apply here and look forward to your appraisal after the launching of yours.

Scott; I will be launching next week ( that's the plan anyway ) and will be adding the ballast in 40 lb ingots. For now I'll place them loosely in order to get the desired trim, then secure them later. I'm planning on using the 1000 lbs called for in the plans. The surveyor said the more ballast below, the better she would perform. Will let you know.

Randy; Heres some pics during fabrication. Profiles were water jet cut....incredible.
Will take a photo of the installed cooler tomorrow.

Just a note on the placement of ballast on the Titan tug.

Initially we added 240 lbs between section 8 and 9. This trimmed her nicely, with the bow up just a little.
When I established the waterline I raised it 2 inches. So now she was sitting pretty, but still too high and I wanted the extra stability of ballast.

I placed 120 lbs betwen station 1 and 2, 160 lbs between station 2 and 3, The engine and fuel tanks are between 3 and 4. The bilge pump area is between 4 and 5, 160 lbs between 5 and 6, 160 lbs between 6 and 7, and the holding tank is between 7 and 8.
Lead is in 40 lb ingots (around 6 by 12 by 2'' thick...just a nice handling weight ).
Total works out to 840 lbs ( I think )

Handles nicely and sits well.

Gidday Doug-Thanks for the feedback on the ballast that you have placed.
This will assist us greatly later on.Look forward to finding out how she behaves on the water.
For us,we are sodablasting the inside of the hull next week and going about painting the same area with two pack epoxy.
The rudder is installed and a tiller is to be fitted as well.The hydraulic steering system has a bypass valve which when 'cracked' off, isolates the hydraulics/wheel and you are free to steer at the tail-end.We have a leftover 1-1/8inch prop shaft and expect the specified prop and coupling to arrive shortly.
Anyway good luck with yours and it certainly looks the business.
