Just to give you an idear of what the 454 will do, I have that 24' Mastercraft hat I bought for a donor boat for the Atlantic skiff that I wanna build. She's a big ole boat, maristar 240SC. That BB 454 will get that big ole boat up and cruise at 35 no problems. She runs around 48 at WOT so she has a lot of grunt dude...down side is that she sucks some gas..... She does great running around at about 30 to 35.

Post some pics dude!

Thanks for the real life numbers. I started to ask around to see if anyone had something close in size and power, but everyone I know has outboards. I will post pics sometime soon.

That is destined to be a good conversation topic. The outboard lovers are gonna stick to their hatred of inboards. The inboard people are gonna stick to their preferences. There may not be enough beer available to settle the topic.
However, my boat runs @ 8gallons/hour WOT and that equates to 80hp. I cruise @ 5 gallons/hour which equates to 50hp. (assuming that gasoline yields 10hp per gallon per hour). IF, and I say IF I hung a 80hp outboard on the back of my boat would it perform equal to my current inboard? Could you imagine a 80hp outboard on a 25' boat? How would it run?
You could push your boat along nicely with even a 350 SBC, with appropriate gears. With a BBC it may nearly fly.

There are some hulls being built that measures 24 to 28 foot that use outboards under 80hp. I own a 90 hp that burns six gallons an hour at 21 mph.

Well it has been awhile since I posted am update, but I finally finished something worth taking a picture of. I have been sanding and sanding and sanding and well you get the point. The sides are as flat as they are going to get. About a month ago I made a pattern of the strut, then sent it off to get made. The guy I sent it to had a used chris craft strut that was close enough to what I needed so I made it work. I'm now in the process of building the skeg. Here are some pics.

I'm about to start on an Atlantic Skiff myself. Did you sheath the hull before adding the skeg?

Thanks psychobilly after 3 months of sanding there is still some uneven spots that i can't seem to get perfect, but I can live with.
Armstpat I fiberglassed the hull first, them when the skeg is done I will also fiberglass that.

I would have made the flare a lot bigger but at 9' wide it's technically to wide to tow without a permit now. Also I wish I would have continued the tumblehome to about half way up, I just like that look more. Look at this 20' cc, this is the shape I was trying to make. Overall I'm pretty happy.

Weller, that looks great.
Those low tide sand bars will part when they see that full skeg coming.
I'm laying the keel on mine this week and helping another local GA guy with a flip on Saturday.
If you had it to do over would you use okoume or meranti ply rather than fir to eliminate a bunch of the sanding?
Keep at it.
Dan

Well I'm cheap, so I still would have used the doug fir for the first layer, then something else for the final layer. It would have not been as bad if I would have not used a power sander on the doug fir, but instead hand sanded. Also I thought the fiberglass would have flattened it out, but I was really wrong.
