:) The key at this point is to say this is the place. Then people can make plans and reservations. Keep the topic alive. Bring it to the top from time to time so new people see it.

I need to price out what the trip would cost.

Just for fun Bill, I 'figured' the price of that trip

Launching from San Diego (add the cost of towing the boat there from Alabama):
Cruising at 30mph,
burning only 7gph,
traveling a distance of 7507 miles across open ocean,
for ten and a half days,
would require 1750 gals of gasoline,
figured at $3.50 per gallon;
cost of fuel alone: $6125

However..., To do this, you would need to tow another vessel to carry your 350 5 gallon fuel cans. That's 10,500lbs of fuel alone, plus the weight of the vessel and the cans. This would reduce your cruise speed to an estimated maximum of 15mph. It would also decrease your fuel ecomomy, but let's be optimistic! Let's say we can still get 7gph. we still reduced our speed by half, which would double the required fuel, doubling the weight, doubling the cost, slowing you down further, yada yada.

So your 10.5 day, one way, $6200+ voyage becomes at least a 42 day, round trip, $26,000+++ oddyssey. The oil, fresh water, and provisions would also need to be calculated for cost, weight, space, etc., unless you have provisioning stops along the way (of which, there are few).

I figure that you can make the trip for $30K-$35K. ...weather permitting, of couse.

On second thought, maybe you should just fly.

Hi All
I'm located in the Riverina area of NSW and have been building an Imp for the past 6 months. Having restricted build space and water ways (rivers and lakes [read dams]) it was a logical choice. Not my first boat but the first built entirely on my own, partly as a tribute to my late father whom taught me most of the skills and also because I miss not having a boat to use/enjoy.
It is nearly completed except for the last finishing touches, so soon I will post build photos and comments of the experience. I hope using it will be as enjoyable as building it was.
John :D

Hello to all from the South Coast of NSW......Im brand new on this forum, and posting this to make myself known,as this seems to be where to find the Australian contingent of GlenL builders.I hav'nt started on a build as yet,but am investigating a "Riviera" or a "Monaco"(as soon as i get free of other projects)........I enjoy attending boat events, and just returned from the HObart wooden boat show, which was great. So,if a gathering was held at Lake Macquarie id be there too.

Hi Terry and Welcome.
We are getting closer to a Gathering, waiting on somebody to scope out the place so we can start planning. The weather hasn't exactly been nice for touring around :( Could have had a great gathering in the main street of Gympie this week... and been useful as taxi's. Hope everybody is ok where there is flooding.

Go figure on this weather?
Before Christmas I was fighting bushfires every day and after Christmas we're hosing out people's places after flooding and still it rains. But as Mark Twain said "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it!"

Hi all ,i missed Hobart wooden boat show fighting bush fires, we have a fire bug in our area we were not game to leave then it
rained 930 mm in 3 days ,we headed off as soon as the roads opened, stayed one day at lake Maquarie in a cavaran park i talked
to the owner about a gathering there he said that he would give us a discount, they have cabins right on the water a small jetty
and a boat ramp, but not much room to park cars and trailers, it would be all right for five or six , we need some one to spend a
few days and some local knowlege to have a good look around , I am sure that there are more places better suited to what we want
we were going to go to a wooden boat show , in south Australia after we visited Jenko at pine mountain that was well worth the trip
but the weather was looking like more rain so we headed home, another 400 mm roads are cut again .

Thanks Pete.
Doesn't sound quite right for us. 5-6 isn't going to cut it. Small possibility we could launch the boats and park the trailers somewhere els, but finding somewhere secure enough might be the problem. Keep looking I guess. :(. October is going to come around real fast, so anyone with any other potential sites bring them on!
