Robert Greco Zip

Does anyone know if Robert Greco shortened his Zip, along with omitting the bridge deck?

The few photos I've seen of it look like it may have been shortened some, or perhaps the front seats were shifted back some. I really like his interior layout.

I've found links to his photos here in the forum, but it seems the photos or website are no longer there.

I'm not sure about the length, but if you watch this video, you'll see it does not have a splash well. Maybe that allowed him to arrange the interior differently. Is the splash well optional in the Zip?

Hi Jeff,

Well, it does have the deck cutout for the splash well... Whether or not there is a "functional" splash well in there, I do not know. The well is optional on the Zip, but is recommended.

Judging from that slightly overhead port-side shot, it looks to me like he may have shortened it just a little.

Hmmm... If those step plates are 8-1/2 inches, then perhaps it's a full 14'4" if I did my scaling correctly...

In any case, I agree Jeff... It's a great-looking boat.

I emailed with him many times as he was a few months ahead of me throughout our builds and I asked him many questions along the way. He never spoke of shortening it but I never asked either. Perhaps the rear seat back is farther forward than most of us make it and that makes it look shorter because the section behind the rear seat back to the transom is actually longer?
They also built a sweet Tubby Tug.

I would have to say that by looking at the pictures posted. He moved the rear seat forward a lot. By looking at the deck boards in the transom area and comparing them to mine there looks to me like the is about 6 or 8" more of rear deck.
It would be interesting to know how he dealt with the water getting in over the transom where the motor attaches. As far as it getting into the whole boat.
I do like the way he did the front seats. that along with the shorter rear deck would open the cock pit to some more room.

Robert's Zip does not have the bridge deck shown on the plan, but his boat does appear to be full length. By eliminating bridge deck, he was able to move his rear cockpit forward and lengthen the aft deck in the process. It does look nice and provides easy access to the entire cockpit. It also moves any rear-seat passengers a little closer to the center of buoyancy. Our Zip was built as close to the plan as possible, and we included the 12" bridge deck because it seemed like a good idea to place the gas tank underneath it. It also makes the aft cockpit pretty tight. I just took my tape measure out to the garage and measured ~24" from the transom to the rear of the aft cockpit. Robert's is obviously longer.

I did PM Mr. Greco, as Vupilot suggested. He was kind enough to respond very quickly. Mark Shipley's description above is right. Mr. Greco did add the detail that he believed the back of the rear seat was even with frame #2.

I really like this interior layout.
