New member from oregon

Post by joshuab » Tue Apr 28, 2015 8:32 pm

Hello everyone my name is josh and i am building a zip, i am about 10 mos. Into the build now and currently priming the bottom, a few weeks away from the flip (very excited) i have purposefully not joined the forum until recently to see if i was capable of building my zip on my own, granted i did use the forum for research but wanted to avoid the temptation of asking for help. I am very proud of my zip, will post some pics soon, i have uploaded a monthly update video to youtube of my progress every month since i started the build, feel free to check them out if your interested, there is a link in my profile, thank you so much to all of you who have added to this forum, over the years i could not have done it with out you....josh

Thank you chris! your zip was the main contributing factor that made my mind up when deciding what design to build, i used and am still using your zip as the gold standard when measuring how well mine is turning out, i utilized many of your posts for inspiration and help thus far and i am sure i will continue to do so......josh

Still a couple weeks out on the flip, i am currently modifying my trailer to be a perfect fit and support the zip completely. Plugging away and making good progress every month

Mid way done, i stretched it three feet, added two bunks per side that line up with battens and angled the cross supports to match the transom and frame # 2, also moved the axel rearward a couple feet.

A little more finish fab work, paint, encapsulate the 2x4's and cover with bunk carpet, nice little trailer for under $400 total, it really pays to be handy

Looking great. Did you restore the trailer or simply modify it. I am considering restoration versus buying new but don't have easy access to sand blasting for paint and rust removal.

This is a resto of a trailer i had around from a previous boat, a little modifying here and there and she'll be good as new, and a perfect fit 8)
