Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that I haven't fogotten my promise to post pix. I have some now, but they're from a 35mm disposable, and aren't very good. Come Christmas I will be visiting the RV (I mean, visiting the family ;) and will take a bunch of digital pix.

In the mean time, here: http://www.tincantourists.com/photopost ... l&size=big[/u] is a picture of a 1972 Mitchell camper. Mine looks exactly the same except that the door is in the front, and it has three stripes, rather than two.

Oh, and mine may not be in quite as good of shape...

With that, I think I'll close out this thread, and start a new one when I get good pix.

Thanks, all.

Well, I got to see the camper for the first time in 25 years over Christmas, and was very disappointed. I still maintain that my father built it well, but I was under the misconception that my grandfather maintained it well...

For instance, he has replaced most of the appliances over the years and it seems all the replacements were smaller than the originals. The changes were poorly done, with paneling scabbed on to cover the extra space. Outside there are several patches in the tin where vents and things were relocated. He has added 110v outlets in a manner that make me question his sanity...

So, while I feel that the chassis/cab and camper frame are still in great shape, fixing it up will require extensive remodeling on the inside, and skin replacement on the outside.

My nephew has more time and work space than I, so the camper goes to him.

Sorry for the thread that dead-ended.

you may want to check, on the 283 rebuild before you opt. for the 350. alot of times the car makers put the small c.i. motors in the trucks, for tourge reasons. higher tourge to hp ratio, then the larger motors. they built for hauling versies speed. like you said its a rv. i'm not a chevy expert, but i know ford for years put strait 6's with 1 barrel carbs. in some of thier bigest trucks. but by popular demand, everyone talking hp, they started putting in the larger hp motors.

lynchburger, I went through your photo album and there's some GREAT stuff there. ...lots of old campers and RVs. So I went through my own archives and thought you might like to see these photos of the BenRoy teardrop that we had when i was a little kid. And I do mean when I was a LITTLE kid:

In the first photo, I'm standing at the very rear of the teardrop to the left of my mom. That's my twin brother rolling around on the ground at Mom's feet.

Actually, my username is lynnburcher, not lynchburger, and I don't have a photo album here. However, I am into old RVs, and appreciate your pix. Now I'm going to have to search out that lynchburger album you mentioned.
