If you are looking for gas springs and mounts and need ideas, check out McMaster-Carr.
They have great descriptions and dimensions of all their products, so they work great to generate ideas and to see what's out there.

Re: Barrelback 20'
Pulled my baby out of the garage today since the temps were in the mid 60's. Got a little bit of work done and got all the sawdust vacuumed up before putting her back in. . Sure does look different when they are out in the open.
Need to make some more adjustments to the hatch and start working on the sheer filler.

Beeeeeeeeeeutiful Will !!!
Re: Barrelback 20'
Does anyone have any recommendations for mechanical steering. I got a recommendation from Sea Star Solutions on the mechanical steering, they gave me the following part numbers:
Safe-T QC tilt SHT91523 tilt module kit for helm and tilt mechanism and SSC62xx steering cable
Replace xx with your cable length in feet.
What is the difference between No Feed Back and those that do not have it. I believe this model doesn't have the NFB.
Didn't know if there was a difference.
Thanks!!

Re: Barrelback 20'
No feedback means that the forces induced on the rudder, or OB motor in the case of outboards, caused by water are not transferred to the steering mechanism. This helps stabilize the control of the boat. Very helpful in larger, higher powered boats. I would recommend that for your boat. Better yet, use a hydraulic system if you can spare the extra expense. Some larger boats have used double cable systems. These are also better than the single cable systems, but get more complicated with costs nearing that of hydraulic.

Thank you Roberta, I will look into the hydraulic systems and see if I can incorporate it into the build. May have to save a few more pennies
. Thanks

Re: Barrelback 20'
you will be fine with the NFB ...the Safe-T not so much as you will not be able to ever let go of the helm as the rudder will take over and steer you into a tight turn

Re: Barrelback 20'
I have NFB (single cable) on my Gentry and it works great. You can put the boat in a turn and let go of the wheel and it keeps on turning. When going straight, same thing. It is a little stiff though. I think it would be fine for your boat but, as Roberta points out, hydraulic steering is the way to go if you can spend the bucks. Nice job on your build.... Neel
Re: Barrelback 20'
also keep in mind that "steering" is over rated for an inboard. you are not cranking the rudder over lock to lock like you might with an OB or IO for any maneuver.
