Will
I have NFB on the Tahoe 20'-6. Works great. God help me if I ever have to replace the cable.
I have hydraulic on the Bartender. It will fit a narrow splash well. It will be much easier to rework if I have to. Bleeding the lines can be a mess, if you're not careful. But, you shouldn't have to do that again for a long time.

Bill,
The mechanical unit comes as a rotary or rack & pinion. Any suggestions?

I don't see much difference. Rotary on the Tahoe. Rack & Pinon on the mini-tug. I think the rotary takes up a little less room behind the dash. They're the same in the splash well.

Re: Barrelback 20'
I bought a pair of this Intelli-Hinges too. How did you install them? It's not a simple screw them on procedure. Want some advice before I start butchering up my deck lid.
It's not obvious to me how to countersink the hinge.

Re: Barrelback 20'
I haven't installed them yet, so I don't have any recommendations right now.... but if you figure it out, let me know!!!
It does look like they have to recessed into the deck. Will most likely have to make a template and route out the recess, kinda like an inlay.

Re: Barrelback 20'
Hi Matt,
I did a quick search, and they don't provide any installation instructions for those hinges on the TACO site. Maybe try contacting them directly for a drawing or more information.
Looking at them, it appears you need a recess for the hinge and an extra hole for the ball/socket. I think you need to mock up some thing and make a template for a router before you try it on your hatch. I would use an "up spiral" bit and a guide on the router base. The alternative is pattern bit with bearing on top to follow the template.

Set router to Hog out 1/4" deep and drill a 7/8" hole on one side. Router scares me, I had a death grip on that thing.
BTW, the hinge can come unhinged if I flip the hatch open to aggressively. It's like a hip ball and socket joint. I'm a little concerned the rubber will wear out like my joints are.
Good luck,

Re: Barrelback 20'
What do you most folks do about this? Drill through the rudder shaft to get the bolt through the tiller arm?

is there a keyway in the rudder shaft and arm?
...if not machining that out may be the way the rudder shaft is indexed to the arm.

I managed to get that notch drilled out. My friends at Smith Power Plant did the keyway for me, and a bag of sausage and biscuits.

There is a keyway in the tiller arm opposite of the through bolt.

Re: Barrelback 20'
Will; I'm assuming the rudder shaft is not keyed and drilled as their locations would depend on the orientation of the tiller to rudder, ie. whether you are approaching aligned with the keel or transversly. And, thickness of the hull at that point.
