Apparently it's 4400-4800 with a 1:1 borgwarner
4.3 mercruiser in a 20' version of the barrelback :)

I think you're looking at a 12x12 prop. Maybe get between 45-48 mph. At those RPMs, 12" diameter is about the max. After that you'll probably have blade tip cavitation. Then you play with pitch. I'm not a pro. Just my thoughts.

I was torn between 12x12 or 12x13 and I'm assuming it's 3 blade. Just want to order something Asa- with my last big order..
12x12 seems like the winner

A few pics moving the boat, gauges that just came in, and fitting the tiller on the rudder post hence why the rudder is in before the shafting..

Ditto on the bow shot. How did you get that finish? Also, how did you get the covering board and the side planking to join without any gaps?

I have a question for the group, that stems from OP's picture. How many of you waited to install the motor until after much of the top decking is completed? And if so, is it a reasonable job to do? I would like to do this after the top decking is (essentially) completed for several reasons, including: 1) I would like to postpone placing the boat on the trailer till near the end of completion (I assume that with the engine installed, it will be too heavy to lift onto a trailer otherwise) for space purposes; and 2) I plan to install the engine with my father-in-law, who lives out of town. I would actually like to complete the build with him so that we can take it out soon afterwards.

Dave,
That's the plan for my barrelback, install the motor later. I have the motor waiting to install, but I am going to complete all of my deck work first. I am completing my build on a dolly which is lower than a trailer would be. I don't have my trailer yet so it will remain on the dolly until I am ready. The way I see it, the deck beams are the only thing that are in the way now, or after the decking is in place. I will take my hatch doors off the boat when I install the motor. I also want to make sure that I will have access to all components e.g. gas tank etc. with the deck on, just in case they need to be removed later. Recently lots of stuff gets into the boat (shavings from shaping coverboards, sawdust, etc.) Much easier to clean out now rather that when the motor is in. Planning to build a gantry to lift my motor into the boat. (raise the motor and roll the boat under it) Might use same setup for lifting the boat and moving the trailer underneath. I do have the exhaust system and other components to get proper placement now.

I put the Tahoe on the trailer at the flip. I built the deck framing. But, didn't do the decking. I used a $150.00 shop crane from Harbor Freight to set the engine. It is much easier to reach through the frame and do things. You have better light. Make the engine hatch as big as you can!
