I put 80 pound thrust minn Kota trolling motor in my amp eater. I put it in an aluminum motor post. I put in a sea star steering system and put the steering wheel in the middle of the cockpit. I took it out and it goes nice . With one person it makes a small wake. I put 2 banks of 2 batteries in. One to go out and one to come back with.

Hogwild,

Congratulations on your AmpEater build. If you get a chance, post a couple of pics of your Ampeater and motor setup. There are quite a few who would be interested in seeing it.

I sent pictures in and am sure they will be posted soon. I had previously built a kids boat called Memory. Plans by Gary Christanson, It IS 8 FT long and powered by an inboard trolling motor' .

Hey Hogwild, is that your lovely Amp Eater posted yesterday on the Glen-L facebook page?
Nice job. The ETM (electric trolling motor) mount looks great. How does it perform? I like your steering console.

Yes Dave that is my ampeater. The aquatron looks lovely. I had a welder make the motor post,. I just gave the boat to my daughter in Tallahassee this past weekend. The boat goes good. It might ride a little high at the back end unless a beefy person is at the wheel. I have no idea how fast it goes, but sees like 5 mph if I had to guess.

Very nice. Almost exactly what I had envisioned, and what I still hope to make.

Got a great deal on a Minn Kota Endura Max 55. Cragslist, of course. It's in almost new condition, and half the price of a new one.

Now to find the batteries...

That is probably the most powerful and best 12 v trolling motor available. Will develop nearly 1 hp.
Stephen did a nice job on his build. It appears to scoot right along. I am anxious to see how yours will do as well.
