I was thinking about glassing the hull and wrapping the glass around onto the transom which is now just the exterior ply, making the transom smooth and level. Then add my finish transom material over the glassed exterior ply ( either mahogny ply or mahogny plank). It would give me a crisp edge along the bottom and sides to fill in and match after radiusing for the glass. Then I could finish off the transom brite, maybe just epoxy and varnish or Bristol Finish which sounds like a great product. Any comments ?

Thanks
Tom

I couln't help but notice you are in Western MA and are building a Malahini.

I am in central MA and trying to decide between the Malahini and the Squirt (heart says Malahini..... head says Squirt as I haven't built a boat previously).

How is your boat coming? What are your thoughts on how difficult the building process is for this boat?

And most importantly... when's the launch party!

George

Hey George,

The boats coming along fine. No major problems thanks to the guys and girls on this site. I haven't done much but sanding since the warm weather and boating season started, but I'll soon start fiberglassing the hull. I hope to have it ready for next season. I think the process is pretty much the same for the Malahini or the Squirt other than the sizes.

I just saw a post saying someone spent $15,000 for the Malahini, I won't come near half of that, and I think the boat looks pretty good. I have a 50 HP merc I picked up pretty cheap. I'll paint the hull and try to finish the deck bright, with the strips. But, between the two boats, you still have to make the building form, do the frames, fiberglass, paint, everything... So the process is pretty similar.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Good luck,
Tom
