Is the bow eye (the one through bolted to the stem) strong enough vertically to support the lifting of the hull for turning over? I am going the opposite way to most turnovers. Glen-l 21 CB hull. I plan on dropping the centre board first. The cabin and deck have been removed (some rot). I see some evidence of rot at the sheer (hull plywood) and some at the keel(plywood again). This boat has been outside with some cover (tarps but not full coverage) for approx 15 years. I believe that the boat is 25 - 30 years old. Definitely not marine plywood (lots of voids on the inside). Hull has been re - fiberglassed with epoxy approx 20 years ago but there are some whitish spots where there may not be adhesion. Mahogany frames look fine. Turnover is to inspect some more to see if it is worthwhile going any further.
Thanks
Doug

There is no way to tell whether the bow eye on the boat will support the load. The cast manganese bronze bow eye that Glen-L sells (#05-020) is rated at a capacity of 4000 lbs and should support the hull. You do not know what is on your boat or what stresses it has had over the years.
I don't know that if I had a new boat, with a new bow eye, that I would want to depend soley on the bow eye to turn it.
You might check the Glen-L site, News Letters, Subject Index: Turning the Hull.
