How many people do you have signed up? Sounds interesting. have Squirt that I finished in 86. Been to Madisonville Wooden Boat Show in LA and Biloxi MS wooden boat show several years.

Are most of you bringing your boat, and are they going to be in the water or static displayed?

Allen

Allen,

I haven't taken count lately. But, I think we have 13-15 builders, so far. Spouses?

Boats coming? I'm trying to bring my canoe and the new runabout. The runabout will be close.

We all want to see your boat.

Reservations are all on our own. Sorry, but none of us can sponsor this by ourselves.

Please come, Bill

The guys that dont think their boat will float will probably do a static display (IE...Bill) the rest of us will probably have them in the water.

Steve

Wait...I don't have a boat. Harley will stay on dry land ...

Wait..unless Bill wants to see if it floats!

Where did I get the idea that you were building a Tubby Tug?

Steve...

On your point about non-floating boats being in static display... do we expect people to bring "work in progress"?

(my goal is still to be operational by then)

Bruce,

That IS exactly the point. We really want WORK IN PROGRESS...I think some of that will be very interesting and allow everyone to see the different stages of completion for those in their own builds. It might prove to be one of the best parts !!!

What if we post a pic of the project we are bringing to Gathering?
Just enough to perk interest in the event. I would like to see some of the other builds to drool over as I get ready.
Mine is a work in progress. Maybe we could set up a Roulette wheel, cards, & dice and have day trips.

Kens.

Great photo! What prop are you running with that engine? are you expecting 35? 40 MPH? You may need some trim tabs.

I have been completely humbled and intimidated by LeakCheck's description of David's Monaco.

But... I'll bring what I've got, and "bare my skeletons" for all to see.... (most embarrasing is the extensive weave show-thru)

Here's current status... (not exactly "drool-worthy)

Image

As usual... I can't seem to get the dang Kodak images to show here... here's a link:

http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?mode=fromshare&Uc=19l5ethz.5qit027j&Uy=-hm8ncx&Ux=1

By the gathering, my plan is...

next coat of varnish on.
all mechanicals "roughed in".
soles, ceilings and seats roughed in
hatch framed
deck battens installed
beams and battens faired
plywood sub-decking installed
boat on trailer

If there are any good "motorheads" at the gathering, I'll be open to advice on getting this engine going.

There's nothing wrong with the engine (that I know of)...

It is just my complete and total fear of trying to start it by myself. (never done anything like that before)

I'd appreciate some folks checking over my set-up to make sure I don't do some serious damage.

B.

There is a serious problem with your motor rigging.
You will need a long shaft electric gizmo motor or you will surely cavitate when you get to planing speeds, ( in the 50 mph range).
Also you need to trim down somewhat or you will spill the tea!

Other than that, you may try a 5 blade plastic prop.

I know these suggestions will be of major help.

Bob,
screwing off at work again.

Oh, one other thing, you could probably trim the boat down by moving the plastic furniture further forward and getting Steve to sit up there. Looks like he would make good ballast. ( He might say the same about me after we meet next month).
Anyway you can check out my mess at page 2 of ;
