O.K. guy's,
How much trouble did I get myself into, now?
I replaced the rotted Cabin roof, 3/4 Ply glued and screwed; But one of my beautiful assistants covered the whole cabin with improperly mixed epoxy.
Can I add hardener on top and try to mix it and get it to set-up. or must I try to clean the whole mess up and start fresh? did I mention it's allot of wet epoxy? Also, it's been raining a bunch this last few weeks and that's not helping, it's spreading the mess around and the cooler temp. doesn't help either.
Ant suggestions will be appreciated.

Gregg

Sorry, but scrape it off.
No, you cant just mix hardener on top of it. I got into a mess on mine project too. You just got to clean it up and start over.
A two-fisted carbide scraper did the trick for me.

Sorry to say, but I back Ken up. And it's not important how I know that. lol

Cases like that are one of the few pluses for polyester.

It's gotta come off. That is one horrible job in every way possible. Trying to add a layer of properly mixed resin over it will just make the scraping harder. If it's pretty gooey still, isopropyl alc can help cleanup the residue left behind. There will be bug-fossils, dirt, and a load of assorted nasties stuck in it.

I am not jealous of that job.

Caber Buddy,
Yep, you were right on all counts. I'm still not through cleaning it up. I'm using acetone, it's working ok. I've got to find a new source for clean rags. I can't get enough.
Thanks for the thoughts.

Gregg

I found that vinegar takes it off better than anything when some of mine did not setup good. Besides it is not toxic either.

I will too. It's certainly cheaper than acetone. But the acetone DID work when I screwed up a couple of batches. Trust me. Once you make this boo boo, you'll have learned a lesson that won't need repeating.

I don't know about on a big job. But, red vinegar work on my hands.

And, it smells better than acetone.

Yeah if you like that pickle smell, my guess, one's as bad as the other.

Ok, so I bought more epoxy, to fix my boo boo, once I get it cleaned up; They sold me 3.5 Gal. of part one, west systems 105-c. With no part two. I'm waiting for a call back on this one.

well,

Another hundred and seventy bucks, and now I've got both parts one and two; But wouldn't you know, the pump to measure the mixture with was not included either. If it's not one thing it's two others! :x
