I have built a Biscayne 18 with hull thickness 133% spec, thicker than spec frames and stringers. Over-all very stout construction. I am using a Marine Power 4.3 mpi with 230 hp and a 1:1 ZF transmission. ACME 13 x 13 x 1 Lh prop. With myself and 10 gallons of gas I am turning 4300 rpm, doing 49-50 mph measured with gps. Also, I have an OJ Legend 12 x 15 that I purchased on Ebay for $15. It lacks acceleration and gains on vibration over the ACME [dinged up a bit], but for what it is worth, 49 mph at 4400 rpm measured on gps.
Also, I did some calculations comparing the hp/wt ratios between the 4.3 and the carburated v8s with 275hp. Hp/wt ratio for the 4.3 v6 boat was better than that of the v8. Also, the 4.3v6 boat will have approx. 300+ lbs greater capacity. Hope this info is useful to someone out there!

Where did you get your V6 from? Was that a drop-in inboard version by Marine Power or a modified stern-drive engine? I'm shopping around for the engine I want for my Key Largo, looking at a complete engine setup to bolt in rather than ressurect a used one. I find that off-the shelf 4.3L V6's and small (5.0L) V8's are set up for stern drive. One exception I find to the V8's is a Crusader 5.0L, but not sure I need to go that big for my boat.

I found that MichiganMotorz dot com has the 4.3L V6 with MPI
set up for inboard. This is what I am using for my Crackerbox.

I been clicking around their website for sometime now. How is their support? Their products? etc.

Re: MichiganMotorz

I have not purchased yet, but I spent almost 45 minutes on the phone
with the owner and he was extremely accomodating. He answered all my questions, even some that I had not asked. He informed me he keeps a respectable inventory.

He was recommended by another Glen-L builder that has already purchased a motor from them and was happy with the overall
service.

When I place my order, I guess I will see how his service is.
