I've been thinking about using my boat to benefit someone else....what I mean is...either selling it and giving the money away...or finding some other sort of worthy use for it. There are so many people who need stuff more than I do. Any ideas how this could be done to give maximum benefit to people in need?

PS: No I'm not off my rocker.

I know I personally would get more satisfaction out of knowing my boat is being used for a good purpose, not just the money from the boat. With just one quick search on the net I found a few organizations, such as the Pacific Youth Boating Association, that accept donations. Donations are tax deductible, and would go directly in helping youth that are interested in boating.

David - I do not know the tax laws in Ireland nor whether a charitable deduction is of any value. However, I built a small row boat several years ago to gain some experience in construction and particularly in fiberglass and epoxy. Last year I gave the boat, along with a nice set of oars, to the Salvation Army youth camp. The camp is for underpriveledged (politically correct term for poor) kids. They were very happy with the row boat - - I was very happy to see it get some good quality use by a bunch of kids that have few opportunities to enjoy the water.

I have thought about the charity angle myself a bit...was thinking of building a couple for some type of charity..problem in the Litigiously Happy USA is that you are sure to wind up in a law suit as soon as someone stubbs their toe or slips on your perfectly polished deck.
